Fairytale

bernie dexter manor paris dress

Well, it's officially winter here! We finally got some snow, and I'm sure more is on the way. I don't mind a little bit of cold weather, but my fingers are crossed that this winter won't be anywhere near as awful as it was last year. Luckily, I have pretty dresses to get me through. As soon as I saw the sneak peeks of this Bernie Dexter Rococo print dress, I knew it belonged on my body. Plus, it pairs perfectly with this enchanted carriage brooch from Deer Arrow and my new Miss L-Fire boots!

This week is going to be a bit hectic, as we're in the midst of rehearsals for the show we're putting together with 1 week of rehearsals. It's going to be really fun though (it's such a cute little play), and a really great challenge. My best friend (who's also directing the show) and I did a little interview on TV for it last week, so I'm hoping both the response and turn-out for the show will be good. (If you're interested in watching it, you can find it here!) In general, there are a few really fun things coming up for me, which definitely makes the winter a bit more bearable.

Friday Favorites #117

It's been a minute since I had a Friday Favorites post! Here's some of what I've been lovin' on lately:

I know January's just started, but I have to admit that I'm already thinking ahead to Valentine's Day. Aren't these origami roses gorgeous? What a fantastic alternative to real flowers – they'll last forever!

I also really love this flower petal confetti – it's a much more romantic option:

This little blush hat is so darling.

This sloth dress is an adorable Valentine's Day option!

I want everything Smeg makes, but especially these toasters:

And this kite dress is superb!

My favorite fragrance is no longer available (sob), so I've been eyeing this one... I really like unconventional scents, and this might fit the bill.

This skirt is nothing short of amazing and I ordered it immediately. Shawna does custom orders (mine will be in black) and she has some awesome designs. Check out her shop here!

Gingham may not be seasonally appropriate, but that doesn't stop me from wanting this dress:

I also adore this kissing booth bag:

And finally, Simpsons kitchen is incredible!

Lass

british retro

I may be more inclined towards kookier prints, but goodness, I do love a good tartan. Although I'm a bit of an ethnic mutt (in case you've ever wondered, I'm Polish, German, Swedish, Welsh, French, and possibly Scottish), I've always felt a connection to the Celtic nations and the UK. At least I can sort of pretend I'm from somewhere else in this skirt! I'd been wanting this colorway from British Retro for about a year, and I finally took the plunge. I originally wanted the dress, but since I've been embracing the idea of separates as of late, I went for the skirt instead. It's a bit longer than I'd like (I can't imagine how long it'd be on someone shorter than I), but I could always get it hemmed at a later date. Otherwise, it's a really high-quality piece that makes for a great addition to my fall and winter wardrobe. The skirt doesn't seem to be currently available, but there are other colorways too.

I have one more week of relative free time, and then things are going to get very busy again. I'm doing this lovely little play in mid-January (it goes up with just one week of rehearsals, which will be a fun challenge), and then I'll be going right into rehearsals for a children's theatre show. Although I sometimes complain, I find that I'm better off when I'm busy. When left to my own devices, I'm not anywhere near as productive. I guess hitting the ground running is a good way to start off the new year!

Shop my closet!

shop my closet

It's 2016, which means it's out with the old and in with the new! It's been a looooong time since I did a "shop my closet" update! But my closet is packed to the brim (quite literally – my closet shelving unit recently ripped right out of the wall, whoops!), and I have some great pieces that don't fit my style or body anymore that are taking up valuable space. My loss can be your gain, though! Head on over to my store to take a peek at what's up for grabs! I have sizes M-XL, with lots of retro, quirky brands – and some vintage, too!. (There's a direct working link at the top of my blog too, in case you need to find it but lose track of this post.) Thanks for taking a look, and happy shopping!

2015 outfit round-up

Happy 2016! In lieu of a Friday Favorites post, I'm taking a look back at the last 12 months in outfits. It was definitely hard to choose just 12 (I had to leave out some of my favorites, like my Halloween posts), but I thought this was a good representation of how my style has evolved since the start of my blog. Click the links underneath to be taken to each chosen post. Did you have a favorite post from this year (maybe one I didn't pick)?

January   ||   February   ||   March
April   ||   May   ||   June
July   ||   August   ||   September
October   ||   November   ||   December

I was lucky enough to have some great opportunities basically fall into my lap this year. I filmed my first commercial, was featured in a Buzzfeed article, collaborated with some amazing companies, visited friends, went to California, did a lot of fruit-picking, performed a lot, started seeing someone, saw some great movies, and tried to challenge myself to try new things (even when they're a little bit scary). I'm going to carry that last bit into 2016 – as Amy Poehler said, "great people do things before they're ready," and that's the only way I'll continue to grow. In terms of my blog, I want to continue to improve my photography and have more of a variety in my posts... what would you like to see more of here in 2016?

Have a great start to your year & weekend!

Bubbly

bernie dexter new year's eve dress

New Year's Eve is nearly upon us, and once again, I'm not exactly sure what I'll be doing this year... but I do know what I'll be wearing! Initially, I wasn't crazy about this Bernie Dexter dress, but when I saw it on Ashley, I completely changed my mind. (Ashley seems to have that effect – I swear, she can sell anything!) Ironically enough, I don't drink at all these days, but I seem to gravitate towards NYE outfits that have an alcohol theme; last year's post featured a martini glass print dress, and the other options I considered for this year both had prints of tipsy elephants! I opted for champagne all around this year, and completed the theme with an amazing Kate Spade wristlet and vintage brooch.

I'll be posting my annual outfit round-up on Friday, but I'm taking some time to reflect back on what I've achieved this year. I've said before that I sometimes beat myself up for not being where I want to be (or at least, where I thought I'd be by now), but I have to remember not to discount how far I've come in the last 365 days. I looked back at my 2015 resolutions, and I was surprised to see how many I was able to check off my list. Among them:
  • I made significant strides in my personal life and took a lot of time for myself (to the point where I can say that I've really gotten past most of the pain from my last relationship)
  • I left my old box office job and started working for my mom; while this may end up being a temporary change of pace, it was definitely a necessary change
  • I kept better track of my spending and have managed to put money away to save
  • I finally got my website up and running (check it out here – it's a work in progress)
  • I met Ashley and Kate in person this year (and had an awesome time), and by doing so, I went to NY and LA
  • I exceeded my blog follower goal and ventured outside my yard for photos
  • I went on Accutane and feel a million times better about my skin
  • Although I have a lot still to learn, my photography has improved quite a bit
I still have lots of goals that will transfer over to my 2016 resolution list (i.e., losing weight and exercising regularly, learning how to sew, buying a car), but I'd rather view that as making progress than "failure" in a conventional sense. I'm actually pretty happy with where I am right now, especially because I've started to enjoy things in the moment. Finding the joy is always one of my resolutions, and I think I've been really trying to do that lately.
