Mint marshmallows

Outfit Details:
Eva Franco Dinner Mint Dress: ModCloth (some available on eBay!)
Mint belt: ASOS (similar here)
White floral tights: Forever 21
White boots: eBay
Bracelet: old

I kind of hemmed and hawed (what a weird expression) about whether I wanted to post these photos.  On the one hand, I really like this dress a lot.  I got it on sale last year, after having eyed it for a long time, and really, it's the perfect shade of mint.  It's also definitely a fancier occasion dress, I think; you can even tell from the weight of the dress that it's high quality, and I think it's meant to be worn with heels.  It kind of loses something with these kooky boots.  I just kind of felt like these photos were missing something, and that I didn't really like any of them.  But then I revisited them, and I still wanted to post them... plus, I am out of photos and need to figure out when I'm going to take more!  So here they are.  I guess there's no way I could be absolutely in love with every post, ya know?

I'm still recovering from my surgery, and I just want to be better!  I'm also sick of talking about it, haha.  But mostly, I just want this pain to go away and I want to be able to eat normal things.  What I wouldn't give to eat some carrots and hummus.  It's funny that I so often crave junk food, and then when I can only eat things like pudding and ice cream, I have a desperate desire for healthy stuff.  I just hope that I'll be okay to eat most things on our trip, because the eating aspect is like, one of my favorite parts about Disney (or vacations in general, I guess).  And we're going to some great places, so I'll be damned if I can't enjoy them!  Gah, I have so much to do before we leave!

I had an audition last night and have a subsequent callback tonight. I'm not gonna say any more than that for now, but keep your fingers crossed for me!  :)  Have a great Monday!

Telephone brooch: Kitty Cat Shop
Ampersand ring: ModCloth (part of a set)
Lady in Rad Boots in Ink: ModCloth
Coat: Bettie Page Clothing (gift)
Belt: from another dress
Tights: ModCloth
Crinoline: eBay

These photos were taken a few weeks ago, so no, we do not have this much snow on the ground right now!  I must have been crazy to go traipsing around in this!  Although I don't exactly love these boots with this outfit, there was kind of no way around it (that is, if I didn't want to wear the ugliest snow boots in all of creation).  Plus, you can barely see them, since it looks like I'm being eaten alive by these snow drifts.  I'm already kind of sick of snow, truth be told.

I'd been eyeing this dress forever (as well as the pencil dress version, which is adorable but would not be flattering on me), and I finally took the plunge during Bettie Page's sale on Black Friday (with some encouragement from the ever-lovely Amanda).  Bettie Page's sizing chart seems to slant on the big size to me (which is often true of a lot of pin-up-esque lines, I've found -- anyone else?), and I probably could have stood to order down in this dress, at least in the waist.  Luckily, I was able to swap out the belt this dress came with for another from my closet, and that pretty much solved the issue.  I was actually really afraid this color wouldn't work on me; neutrals are often tricky on me, especially ones that have yellow or brown undertones.  But I was so pleased that this wasn't the case!!  I also love that it's a long-sleeved dress made out of fabric that's quite heavy -- that certainly comes in handy for this polar vortex we're currently experiencing.  Can you tell I'm tired of the cold?  My mom and I are leaving in 6 days(!!!!!) for our Florida vacation, and even if it's not going to be super hot, I'm so excited to be getting away from the cold and dreariness.

I don't think I ever went into detail here on our vacation plans, come to think of it!  My mom and I are heading down to Naples to visit my grandma for a few days, and then we're driving up to Orlando and going to Disney World!!!  This is precisely the kind of thing that we both need right now, and I'm really looking forward to spending time with my mom and doing stuff we both love (i.e., experiencing Disney magic and eating everything in sight).  I'm not sure if I ever mentioned this, but my ex and I had talked about marriage on a pretty regular basis, and we had always planned on going to Disney World for our honeymoon.  Like, this was a topic of conversation VERY often.  And I decided that I really did not want my idea of Disney World -- a place I truly love -- to always be intertwined with this painful breakup and a relationship that went down in flames.  I've given him too much power over my emotions as it is, and I decided that I'd be damned if I was going to let him take away the Happiest Place on Earth from me, too.  So I'm not!  We are going to have an amazing time and I really can't wait.  I'll be posting a lot more about Disney, and I'm sure you'll probably get sick of it, so suffice it to say that I'm ecstatic and I have so much to do before we leave!!

Have a happy Saturday!

What a novelty (Flock Together)

Hi, everyone!  I'm posting over on the Flock Together blog today, and since I didn't have a chance to take photos with any swapped items from the other girls, I'm doing a personal round-up of one of my absolute favorite fashion elements: the novelty print!  Head on over to Flock Together to take a peek at some of my favorite printed looks from the past year!

Have a happy Friday!

Who's got the button?

Outfit Details:
Children's Theatre Director Dress: ModCloth (old)
White button-down: ASOS (similar here)
Knee socks: ModCloth (similar here)
Brown flats: old (similar here)

Short post again today, guys.  I'm still in a lot of pain from getting my wisdom teeth out (I definitely have dry socket, woohoo) and have kind of been in a haze of sleep and medication.  The weather has also been giving us subzero temperatures, so even if I were in a state to take photos, they wouldn't be outside for now!  These photos are actually from a few weeks ago, when it wasn't unbearably cold.  It's certainly nice to think about that right now.  I hope to rejoin the world of the living very soon; it's getting lonely and I'm getting restless!  Hope you all are well.

PS: Speaking of "buttons" (since I love the ones on this dress so much), I finally got around to making some ad buttons for my blog!  There are a couple on the left sidebar, if you'd like to grab the code!  I also have a bunch more in different dimensions, but I didn't want to clog everything up with them.  I'd be so obliged if you wanted to put one up on your own blog (and if you want a different size, e-mail me)!  One of my goals for my second year of blogging is to put my advertising page up & start charging to advertise on my blog, but I am always willing to talk about ad swaps, as well.  :)

ModCloth's 70% off Now or Never Sale!

a // b // c // d // e

Hello, lovelies!  I'm still feeling under the weather from my surgery, but one thing that made me feel better (aside from copious amounts of painkillers) was this HUGE 70% off sale at ModCloth!  They already had a ton of great stuff on sale, but there are even more items now at even crazier low prices!  I managed to snag this pink dress, this silver one and this hat before they sold out!  I know most people know about this already, since the sale started yesterday, but *just in case* you weren't aware, you should head over there now before everything sells out!  The sale goes on 'til everything is gone!  ModCloth's been doing really well with their sales as of late, but they only do 70% off sales a few times a year, so now's your chance to nab some wonderful pieces!  :)

Happy Shopping!

This is going to be another short(-ish) post.  I've been cooped up since Friday, recovering from my wisdom tooth surgery.  I've been in quite a bit of pain (one of the teeth was impacted, which apparently means it's more painful and a slower recovery process), and haven't been able to do much other than rest.  One half of my face looks very swollen, and the other is pretty normal, haha.  Luckily, I have today off, so I'm hoping the extra day of rest will help.  The hardest thing is having to be on this mostly-liquid/super-soft-foods diet!  I apparently can't really start incorporating any foods that require chewing until the end of this week.  Which of course means that I can't stop thinking about all the food I can't eat!  I just want all the pizza and Chinese and pasta and bread in the world.

Since I look like I'm part chipmunk, these photos were obviously taken before my surgery.  It's absolutely freezing outside these days.  I hope it's supposed to warm up a little soon, since the lighting in my room leaves a lot to be desired.  I sort of put this outfit together at the last minute; I wore the sweater to work with high-waisted skinny jeans, but I wanted to see what it would look like with this circle skirt.  It's hard to see, but this skirt is more of of a costume piece than something for everyday wear (plus, it's too big, so the belt is essential).  It was fairly inexpensive though, and it works in a pinch for a '50s look.  I wore this sweater back in March, and it was such a great find from Forever 21!  I wish they would carry more retro-inspired pieces again!

Some fun news: I was contacted by our local newspaper to be interviewed for a piece on the popularity of vintage clothing, which is pretty exciting!  I always worry that I'm not knowledgable enough for these kinds of things, but I think I have a pretty good grasp on the basics, and I know what kinds of silhouettes I'm drawn to.  I wish there were more brick and mortar vintage places here in Rochester; there are a couple, but there are far more thrift stores than true vintage ones.  I'll probably want to touch on vintage repro labels too.  I'm not really sure what she's going to ask, but I'm stoked that I would be contacted, and it was seemingly through my blog (since she e-mailed my "bloggier" e-mail address), rather than through other personal connections.  I've been doing my research insofar as possible talking points, but be sure to leave me a comment if there are specific points you think I should mention!  :)  I'd be very grateful for any advice.  I'd hate to leave out something important!  The phone interview is going to be early tomorrow morning, so let me know before then (or shoot me an e-mail)!

Have a wonderful Monday!!

Lilacs and daisies

Outfit Details:
Lilac dress (worn as a skirt): Bernie Dexter
Purple sweater: Bettie Page Clothing
White belt & petticoat: eBay
White heels: jcpenney
Daisy brooch & ring: Mom's

Today's post is going to be a little quick.  Not only has it snowed like crazy over the past few days (which explains these indoor photos -- normally, I'd brave the snow, but it is simply far too cold and too windy to venture outdoors), but I'm also still recovering from having my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday.  I'm guessing I won't feel like editing this post before it goes live, so I'll have to give an update on Monday or something.  Here's hoping everything went well!  :)

This Bernie Dexter dress is probably one of my top five most-prized dresses I own.  Lilacs are my absolute favorite flower in the world (my new bedding even has lilacs on it!); not only are they beautiful flowers, but they have the most wonderful scent.  I wore this dress back in May, when we went to the Lilac Festival (the lilac is actually Rochester's official flower, and there's a festival here every year that's centered around it).  I love the top of this dress, which you can't see here, but I wanted to figure out a way to get more use out of it.  It's such a springy print, but I think layering a sweater over it makes it work for almost any season.  I'd normally wear lilac-themed accessories with it (since, let's face it, I tend to dress like I'm wearing a costume), but I opted for daisies instead.  Both the brooch and ring are my mom's, and my mom very nearly named me Daisy.  She still regrets not naming me that to this day!  I don't think I'm a Daisy though, as adorable as the name is.

I'll be resting up for the remainder of the day, but I hope to be feeling better by tomorrow.  Thanks so much to everyone who gave me wisdom-teeth related advice!  I stocked up on soups and other soft foods, and hopefully my mom is making mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes (yum!) at some point.  Between that and the ice cream I bought, maybe this won't be so bad... :)

Hope your weekend is wonderful!
