This is going to be another short(-ish) post.  I've been cooped up since Friday, recovering from my wisdom tooth surgery.  I've been in quite a bit of pain (one of the teeth was impacted, which apparently means it's more painful and a slower recovery process), and haven't been able to do much other than rest.  One half of my face looks very swollen, and the other is pretty normal, haha.  Luckily, I have today off, so I'm hoping the extra day of rest will help.  The hardest thing is having to be on this mostly-liquid/super-soft-foods diet!  I apparently can't really start incorporating any foods that require chewing until the end of this week.  Which of course means that I can't stop thinking about all the food I can't eat!  I just want all the pizza and Chinese and pasta and bread in the world.

Since I look like I'm part chipmunk, these photos were obviously taken before my surgery.  It's absolutely freezing outside these days.  I hope it's supposed to warm up a little soon, since the lighting in my room leaves a lot to be desired.  I sort of put this outfit together at the last minute; I wore the sweater to work with high-waisted skinny jeans, but I wanted to see what it would look like with this circle skirt.  It's hard to see, but this skirt is more of of a costume piece than something for everyday wear (plus, it's too big, so the belt is essential).  It was fairly inexpensive though, and it works in a pinch for a '50s look.  I wore this sweater back in March, and it was such a great find from Forever 21!  I wish they would carry more retro-inspired pieces again!

Some fun news: I was contacted by our local newspaper to be interviewed for a piece on the popularity of vintage clothing, which is pretty exciting!  I always worry that I'm not knowledgable enough for these kinds of things, but I think I have a pretty good grasp on the basics, and I know what kinds of silhouettes I'm drawn to.  I wish there were more brick and mortar vintage places here in Rochester; there are a couple, but there are far more thrift stores than true vintage ones.  I'll probably want to touch on vintage repro labels too.  I'm not really sure what she's going to ask, but I'm stoked that I would be contacted, and it was seemingly through my blog (since she e-mailed my "bloggier" e-mail address), rather than through other personal connections.  I've been doing my research insofar as possible talking points, but be sure to leave me a comment if there are specific points you think I should mention!  :)  I'd be very grateful for any advice.  I'd hate to leave out something important!  The phone interview is going to be early tomorrow morning, so let me know before then (or shoot me an e-mail)!

Have a wonderful Monday!!

Lilacs and daisies

Outfit Details:
Lilac dress (worn as a skirt): Bernie Dexter
Purple sweater: Bettie Page Clothing
White belt & petticoat: eBay
White heels: jcpenney
Daisy brooch & ring: Mom's

Today's post is going to be a little quick.  Not only has it snowed like crazy over the past few days (which explains these indoor photos -- normally, I'd brave the snow, but it is simply far too cold and too windy to venture outdoors), but I'm also still recovering from having my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday.  I'm guessing I won't feel like editing this post before it goes live, so I'll have to give an update on Monday or something.  Here's hoping everything went well!  :)

This Bernie Dexter dress is probably one of my top five most-prized dresses I own.  Lilacs are my absolute favorite flower in the world (my new bedding even has lilacs on it!); not only are they beautiful flowers, but they have the most wonderful scent.  I wore this dress back in May, when we went to the Lilac Festival (the lilac is actually Rochester's official flower, and there's a festival here every year that's centered around it).  I love the top of this dress, which you can't see here, but I wanted to figure out a way to get more use out of it.  It's such a springy print, but I think layering a sweater over it makes it work for almost any season.  I'd normally wear lilac-themed accessories with it (since, let's face it, I tend to dress like I'm wearing a costume), but I opted for daisies instead.  Both the brooch and ring are my mom's, and my mom very nearly named me Daisy.  She still regrets not naming me that to this day!  I don't think I'm a Daisy though, as adorable as the name is.

I'll be resting up for the remainder of the day, but I hope to be feeling better by tomorrow.  Thanks so much to everyone who gave me wisdom-teeth related advice!  I stocked up on soups and other soft foods, and hopefully my mom is making mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes (yum!) at some point.  Between that and the ice cream I bought, maybe this won't be so bad... :)

Hope your weekend is wonderful!

Friday Favorites #35

I'm keeping my Friday Favorites a little short this week, since I'm having my wisdom teeth surgery today (and I was distracted/anxious about it last night, when I was putting together this post).  It's a little all over the place, but that's kind of to be expected once the holidays are over, right?

Pink has become kind of a staple in my wardrobe, and these two pink shoes are practically perfect:

one // two

I'm not usually thrilled with overalls, but this little pink overall dress is so adorable!  It's like a jumper, but better!  Kinda farmgirl chic.  I'm a fan.

I don't really have use for a coin bank, but I just want this little donut bank so badly!
I love this retro skirt and vinyl wall clock!  They make a great pair.

And gosh, I love this mint blouse from Pinup Girl Clothing!  The color, the peter pan collar, and the little bow?  How perfect can a shirt possibly be??

I wish I had seen these two things in time for the holidays!  They definitely would have been on my Christmas wish list!

If you're into vintage and kitschy housewares, you should take a look at Kicky Digs.  It's a new Etsy shop run by a director of mine and his wife.  They really have an amazing eye for vintage pieces (their house is truly incredible), and they have some really cute things for sale right now!

BAIT's new line is absolutely killing me.  How pretty is this little white heel?

I would like this banana necklace, please!!

Speaking of banana... I love that yellow is showing up more in pieces, and that it's a yellow I can actually wear!  Mustard is a really awful color on me (which is sad, because it's lovely), so I really adore these bright yellow accents:

I'm also always into lavender, no matter what season it is!

If I'm gonna go ahead and dress up like a woodland princess, I think it's only fitting to pack my lunch in this little faun container!

If we're going to talk about containers, I have to mention these darling cake tins!
And thinking about cake makes me want this delicious-sounding s'mores milkshake...

If being healthy in the kitchen is more of your thing... this adorable carrot whisk might be for you:

I have my own little orange item that frequents the kitchen... but she's more of a Pumpkin, not a carrot!  :)  This little kitten reminds me of her!

Auld Lang Syne

Outfit Details:
Black velvet dress: Urban Outfitters
Lady in Rad Boot in Ink: Modcloth
Belt: Forever 21 (similar here & here)
Sheer black tights: Urban Outfitters (similar here)
Fleur Any Occasion Headband: ModCloth (similar here)
Clock necklace: Forever 21 (similar here)

This is what I actually ended up wearing last night, though I really didn't do much!  We ate dinner super late (my dad had an early gig, which is odd for New Year's Eve), and it was generally very low-key.  I truly am a homebody at heart though, so I honestly didn't really mind staying home.  Plus, it was absolutely freezing outside (it was around 15 degrees yesterday, and it supposed to be a whopping 9 degrees tomorrow!), so staying bundled up seemed like the preferable option.

It was so cold, in fact, that I felt like my hands were going to fall off while taking these photos!  Winter lasts for so long here, and I am so incredibly impatient.  My room looks presentable enough for some passable photos there, if I'm in a pinch, but the lighting is so much better outside.  Which reminds me, I need to start experimenting with my new camera... it's totally weird that I'm avoiding it.  I've wanted a DSLR for so long, and yet I'm scared of change!  I'm a silly creature.

I have the next two days off, which is nice (and I'm supposed to see my friend Julia on Thursday, which will be great)... but I'm getting my wisdom teeth out on Friday.  I'm very nervous about it.  Like a lot of things, I put it off for a looong time, and now it's here.  I've never really had any procedures or surgeries in my life, and I don't know what to expect.  I've never been put under anesthesia, either.  I'm also worried about my TMJ acting up as a result, and pretty much every other worrisome scenario one could think of (and believe me, I have).  I'm sure it'll be fine, but I'll definitely look like a chipmunk for a few days (I already have a round face, so I can't even imagine what I'll look like), and I've pretty much been warned that at least the one bottom tooth is going to be kind of painful.  Woohoo.  Anyway, I'm trying to get some posts scheduled in advance so that I don't have to worry about it while I'm recovering.  Those who have had their wisdom teeth taken out: any advice for me??  :-x

I'm thinking of maybe trying something where I pinpoint little joys of my day, or what I'm looking forward to, in my posts.  A main goal for me in 2014 is to always find the joy, so maybe this would be a good way to do that.  A big one for this morning would be... not having to set an alarm!  :)

Have a wonderful first day of 2014!!
