Eat your veggies

vegetable dress

I took these photos this past fall, but for some reason, I never got around to posting them (whoops!). Since yesterday was the first day of spring, I thought it was finally time to share them. This vegetarian print dress just seems so springy to me – I might even wear it on Easter! – and you all know that I can't turn down such an amazing novelty print. You can find this dress (along with other incredibly cute creations) at Sophster Toaster!

I hadn't initially planned on posting these photos today, but I came down with the flu last week (right after getting over a cold, too!), and it really kicked my butt. I finally started feeling quasi-normal on Saturday, but it definitely put me a little behind schedule for this week. Hopefully I won't get sick again for a long while – especially since I start rehearsals for Heathers this week! I'm super excited to jump in and get started. I think this spring is going to be fun!

Dear little shamrock

tatyana fan skirt

I guess it should be no surprise that I am a lover of holidays, as they usually encompass two things I love: dressing up and eating delicious food. However, St. Patrick's Day isn't one I tend to go all-out for – since I'm not at all Irish and I don't drink, it doesn't do a whole lot for me. But it does give me an excuse to wear green, so I seized the opportunity to wear this Tatyana skirt (another lucky eBay score!)... even though the fans are a bit more reminiscent of Spain than Ireland.

You might've noticed my growing love for separates as of late. I still love my dresses, but I'm enjoying all the mixing and matching I can do now with my tops and skirts. I especially adore this Jailbird Top from Pinup Girl Clothing – the sleeve length keeps its sexiness from going over-the-top, and I always feel really awesome in it. I'll be a little sad when the weather gets too warm for me to wear it!

A total Bettie

polka dot cardigan

Anyone who grew up watching Clueless knows that calling someone "a Betty" is very high praise indeed. But since I draw a lot of inspiration (including my bangs) from a certain icon who spelled her name with an "-ie," I think I might rather be called "a Bettie" instead. I'd like to think this adorable Bettie Page brooch from Baccurelli looks a little like me (even though I don't resemble the real Bettie very much), and after receiving it as a Christmas gift from my mom, I'm glad I finally got a chance to wear it!

I think it's probably safe to say that winter is over (fingers crossed!), but it's still a bit too chilly most days to go without a jacket – or, at the very least, a cute cardigan! I found this one on sale at Dangerfield and love so much about it. (It's no longer available, but they have tons of other cute cardis.) Since I'm so into separates lately, I decided to turn my black Jenny dress from Pinup Girl Clothing into a skirt by adding a wide belt, which hides any extra fabric from the sweater. Neither of these pieces is ultra-flashy, but that's why they've become versatile staples in my wardrobe. I'll always have a large space dedicated to statement pieces, but it feels nice to dress a bit more simply sometimes!

Dutch Connection

the soubrette brunette: dutch connection

The snow is finally almost gone (hooray!), but just a couple of weeks ago, spring was nowhere in sight – except indoors at the George Eastman Museum. Every February, they fill the rooms of the Kodak founder's historic mansion with tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and much more. The Dutch Connection floral display has been a tradition for over 100 years; George Eastman was inspired to create an annual display after a visit to Holland in 1860, and the current collection is based off the original orders he made with the Dutch bulb companies! I'd only ever been inside the museum once before to take promotional photos for a show I did this winter, and being able to escape the cold and take in these fragrant flowers was such a treat. I have lots of outfit posts on the way, but for now, enjoy some snaps of these beautiful blooms!

Not only did I love seeing the lovely flowers, but being able to explore George Eastman's residence was such a cool experience. They have some really beautiful displays (shown in the photos below of cameras and film dyes), and I really enjoyed exploring the rooms – especially the library and George Eastman's mom's quarters (with an incredible walk-in closet) – and seeing the beautiful architectural details everywhere. I wore this dress for the occasion, but since they don't allow tripods in the museum, I'll have to share that outfit another time this spring. I'm definitely going to visit again when the beautiful gardens are all in bloom! It'll be a perfect location for photos.
