Twin Peaks

pinup girl clothing long jun plaid

I just missed Twin Peaks Day (it's February 24th), but this skirt reminds me so much of all the movies and TV shows I love from the 1980s and '90s. It's a mix of Audrey Horne, the Heathers, and Clueless – what more could you want? Plus, it looks totally at-home in this nature park. I'm actually not in love with this outfit as a whole (I wish I wore a different top), but I really love the skirt and can't wait to style it in other ways. It's super comfortable and the quality is great, too!

The weather for the past couple of weeks has been pretty mild and spring-like, but I'm not totally convinced that we've seen the last of winter. Fingers crossed that it's over, though! I have a feeling I'll be stuck inside for most of this week, so I'm planning on listing a bunch of clothes for sale in my Shop My Closet store very soon. Keep an eye out over the next couple of days!

Chanukah

pinup girl clothing ice blue harlequin

I hope everyone had a great holiday! Our Christmas was really nice and we did a bit of Chanukah celebrating last night. Although I'm Jewish, I always grew up celebrating both holidays, but as I've grown older, our celebrations have evolved. Chanukah sometimes feels like a bit of an after-thought, but we tend to do stereotypically Jewish activities on Christmas Day (i.e., seeing a movie and going out for Chinese food). But given the current political climate, it seems more important than ever for me to be proud of my Jewish heritage and the traditions we keep. I may not be practicing – and I'd always felt like more of a secular Jew anyway – but it's still an integral part of my identity.  So when I saw this new harlequin colorway from Pinup Girl Clothing, I knew it belonged in my closet!

While this dress can easily be associated with winter, it's also very clear that it's the perfect dress for Chanukah. For those wondering about the sizing, I took my normal PUG size (L) for this dress. The size chart suggests that I'm sort of in between an L and an XL, but I actually ended up ordering both and quickly discovered that my regular size was the clear winner. I know some girls received damaged dresses from this batch, but I was lucky and didn't find any flaws of note. Unlike some of my other holiday dresses, this one can – and will – be worn throughout the entire season. I'm excited to style it in other ways, like layering a sweater over it to make it into a skirt!

Sadly, I don't have the rest of this week off from work, but I'm glad it's only a four day week – and that I have leftover latkes in my fridge! :)

Have a great Tuesday!

Candy Cane

I know most girls don't want to dress like candy incarnate, but for me, there's nothing better than looking like a human representation of sweet treats. This skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing might actually be one of my favorites; not only is the candy cane striped print irresistible, but it's actually made out of canvas, rather than the normal sateen PUG tends to use. While that might not have been a welcome surprise for some girls, I actually really like it. It feels a lot more wearable to me.

This skirt also runs larger than some of my other Jenny skirts. Since I'd rather have a little breathing/eating room, I don't mind it – but if you're on the smaller side of a certain size, you might want to consider sizing down. Clearly, I had to pair this skirt with the matching candy cane brooch from Erstwilder – yet another piece from their newest holiday collection. I wear one pretty much every day leading up to the holidays!

Bulldog

charlotte ronson bulldog sweatshirt

As an animal lover, I was so excited to see the results of Erstwilder's #BroochMyPet competition in their newest Fan Pets range of designs. When I received the Taciturn Taco brooch, I knew I had to pair this cutie with a matching pullover that's been oft ignored for no good reason. I love how it looks as if the big bulldog is looking adoringly at its pup! In an effort to stretch my existing wardrobe, I layered this sweatshirt over my black Jenny dress from PUG (how apropos, given the dog theme!) to instantly create a skirt.

I took these photos on one of the last, beautiful days of fall. It's definitely more wintery now, but since Christmas is less than two weeks away(!!!??), I don't mind so much. I got a chance to do some holiday things this weekend – I did some shopping, looked for a Christmas tree, and watched Scrooged. Plus, I got a much-needed hair cut (and color!) and saw some dear friends I hadn't seen in far too long. Next weekend, I'll need to get down to business and start wrapping presents!

Backseat Baby

sourpuss clothing purse

After being sick for the last week, I'm starting to feel like myself again. It's good timing because I've just started rehearsals for a new show – and I'm also itching to take holiday outfit photos. This outfit might seem a bit more appropriate for Halloween than for Christmas, but as someone who loves spooks & sorcery all year round, it felt perfectly suited for a November day.

Although I tend to carry around the same couple of purses all the time, I do have an extensive bag collection. This "Backseat Baby" spiderweb purse from Sourpuss fits right in. I love that it has a vintage-inspired clasp and the ideal amount of edge. (I also enjoy the fact that I actually am a backseat baby – my mom's band was called Backseat Sally!) This purse actually matches the purple Jenny dress I'm wearing perfectly, though it doesn't look like it in these photos. I had to bring it all together with the Steph Buscema fortune teller print scarf that Ashley gave me!

Commuters

mary blair commuters print dress

You might remember my dear friend, Henry, from other posts here on my blog (like this one from last fall or this springy set of photos). Henry moved to New York City and is now out on tour, so I don't get much of a chance to take photos with him anymore. But he happened to be home for a weekend in September and I was lucky enough to spend a fabulous day with him. We went to a really good estate sale, did some vintage shopping, had a delicious lunch, and then took these photos on my cute little street. As I get older, I seem to get more selective with the people I choose to spend my time with. But spending an afternoon with Henry is always an absolute delight. I just wish we could see each other more often!

In an effort to utilize more of my existing wardrobe – rather than constantly buying new stuff – I decided to remix this Mary Blair commuters print dress from Pinup Girl Clothing for the fall. One of my favorite way to get more use out of my dresses is to layer a top or a sweater over it. It works especially well with tops that look a bit too short with jeans, but a regular-length tee can work just as well if you roll up the bottom hem and tuck it into a wide belt. Ta-da! Your dress becomes a skirt, and no one will ever know!

This month has been hard, but it's also been filled with some good things. I'm getting to work from home this week, Thanksgiving is almost here, and I feel refreshed and ready to get back to blogging. :) I may not love all the snow outside today, but I'm definitely looking forward to the holidays!

Have a great start to your week!
