Mint chocolate chip

Outfit Details:
Vintage dress and petticoat: Cricket Capers
Mint ice cream brooch: sweet and lovely
Mary Janes: estate sale store

This is, I'm sad to say, not one of my favorite outfit posts.  Today's post is quite short -- an unfortunate result of not getting many good shots in this outfit.  I really love the color of this dress, but it's pretty clear that it's a "1980's does '50s" reproduction (as evidenced by the shoulder pads I had to remove and the synthetic material), and it's a little too big on me.  Although I love any dress that comes with a matching belt, I can't say that this dress is going to become a wardrobe staple for me.  I ordered it with this dress from the same shop, and I actually anticipated liking this mint one more, but that wasn't the case.  I can't decide whether I want to sell it, have it altered, or keep it as is and see if I change my mind.  I did want to post it though, because I loved pairing it with my ice cream brooch, and maybe because I'm not quite ready to give up on this dress yet.

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

  1. I do like the petticoat- how cute it is lace edged!

This dress is not my favorite on you either (too long, perhaps?) but I think you still look nice in it. And your hair looks lovely all curled!

  2. I found a dress almost identical to this on in the thrift store yesterday (shoulder pads and all). I had the same reaction as you when putting it on. I loved the belt and the skirt, but the bust was swimming on me. I decided not to alter it and leave it behind, but I still feel like I should have gotten it.

  3. I hate when that happens! I think theres nothing wrong with even 80's does 50's reproductions but its all about the fit. Im sad also cause the color is gorgeous so maybe it would be worth altering!

  4. Aw, I actually really love this dress! I suppose it's hard to tell from the photos, but it looks quite 1950's anyway the way you styled it. Sidenote, everytime I see a photo of you I WANT BANGS. Stop it.
As a clothes hoarder, I would probably keep this little dress for the color, it looks fantastic with your dark hair!

  7. Oh the woes of buying vintage online! I think it still looks darling on you (because you can pull of anything..I am convinced.) Perhaps altering the fit in the bust and sleeves, if possible, and bringing up the bottom hem a little might help with the fit and make it look less 80's.

  8. I really think this is cute! But I also understand your perspective. I recently bought a dress on-line and didn't like the fit either, while many other people said it was cute.

The pin by the way is too adorable for words!
