Bunny hop

Outfit Details:
Jenny Dress in Lavender Sateen: Pinup Girl Clothing
Bunny necklace: ASOS (old)
White cardigan: Target
White flats: similar here

This is what I ended up wearing on Easter Sunday.  I couldn't post the pictures before this because of my computer problem (which ended up NOT being the hard drive!  It was a problem with the internal cable that connects to the hard drive, which means I didn't lose any of my stuff, thank goodness!) and my mini-"vacation," so hopefully no one minds that I'm posting them a few weeks late.  I have a plethora of pastel dresses in my closet that seem very Easter-appropriate, but this dress was perfect for the warm weather -- plus, it goes perfectly with my little bunny necklace!

I'm not sure why, but I've found that the few dresses I own from Pinup Girl Clothing fit a little strangely on me.  They are difficult for me to zip in the waist (and are sort of tight), but fit a little loosely in the bust -- which is kind of rare, for me.  I wonder if I did tight-lacing or something if the fit would be better.  It's something I've been a bit interested in since I read Amanda's posts about it on her blog, but I'm not sure it's something I could truly commit to.  Perhaps something to keep in mind for the future, though.  I do like this dress better with a petticoat, but since my mom and I went to see Phantom of the Opera on the day I wore this, I felt like it would be overkill (plus, theater seats are notoriously small, and thus do not mix well with crinolines).  Sometimes I wish it was socially-acceptable (and expected) for women to wear things like petticoats and bustles and hats and gloves... people don't even dress up for the theatre anymore!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

My Favorite Outfit: Elana from Room 334

Hi, everyone!  I really liked the idea of continuing this little "my favorite outfit" guest post series, so I have a couple more for you!  Today's post is from the darling Elana from Room 334!  I've loved getting to know Elana through Flock Together, and she has such a fun and pretty sense of style!  She's also an all-around awesome human being.  :)  Take a look at Elana's favorite outfits below:

Hello all! I'm Elana, and I blog over at Room 334 about polka dots, Peter Pan collars, and being a college student who would rather wake up early to put on a dress than roll into class in sweat pants. I'm actually a very recent grad (I graduated just this past Saturday), so I'm looking forward to seeing how my style evolves as I enter the dreaded "real world." I'm so happy that Sammi is having me today considering how much I adore her style and her as a person. Sammi and I blog over at Flock Together together, and it has been a joy getting to know her over the past year or so.

Of course, like most of the guest bloggers Sammi has had, I found it difficult to choose just one favorite outfit. "Is that even possible?" I wondered. Ever the indecisive girl that I am, I knew I had to choose a handful of my favorites and write about them instead. It's technically breaking the rules, but you can say I'm a bit of a rebel in that sense. And no, I don't get called a rebel very often. Why do you ask?

As you can probably tell, my style is pretty classic and very feminine. I love a good fit-and-flare cut and a cardigan. I'd love to say that my penchant for flats, oxfords, and boots is just because the college student life hardly allowed for heels, but it's really just because I'm clumsy. Flats and I are best friends, and we'll probably have a very long relationship together.

I could have easily replaced some of these outfits with other ones that I love just as much, but I felt this was a good representation of my style. I had so much fun going through old posts, and can't thank Sammi enough for having me today. Hopefully some of you will stop by my blog to say hello, see more girly dresses, and laugh at my bad jokes (because I sometimes think I'm clever). Hope to see you there!

Telephone hour

Outfit Details:
Call of the Winsome Skirt: ModCloth
Blouse: Forever 21 (similar here & here)
Betsey Johnson Collect Calls Bag: gift from Mom
Bass x Rachel Antonoff Oxfords: Nasty Gal
Quote Me Ring: ModCloth
Frilly socks: similar here
Belt: from another dress
Petticoat: eBay

I've been waiting forever to wear this skirt on my blog!  I have another version of this skirt with cat embroidery (see how I styled it here), but I knew when the telephone version arrived that I would have to have it.  A mint phone with a heart rotary dial and a little "bonjour" speech bubble??  I don't think I could dream up anything more perfect for me.  I have a slight obsession with rotary phones; not only do I have this skirt, but I also have a vintage telephone brooch (I decided it was a little *too* much to wear here) and my beloved Betsey Johnson telephone bag.  I didn't like the look of using the shoulder strap with this outfit, so I love that you can carry it by the little receiver!

I'm also super happy that I finally got a chance to wear my Rachel Antonoff oxfords with this outfit!  It's funny -- I tend to be very particular about types of items on which I'm willing to spend a significant amount of money.  I will usually spring for dresses, vintage or clothing items that are in some way unique or hard to come by.  I have a much harder time justifying spending a large amount on accessories (purses and jewelry) and shoes.  The most expensive shoes in my closet are probably my BAIT spectators (and I got two pairs of them on sale) and my one pair of heels from Miss L-Fire (which I actually have yet to wear because they are so stunning and fragile!).  I remember seeing these awesome shoes on ModCloth and Nasty Gal before, but they were originally way out of my price range.  They sold out on ModCloth fairly quickly, but when they went on sale for 50% off at Nasty Gal, they pretty much had the full range of sizes in stock, so I quickly snatched them up!  Sometimes I fall victim to buying items at full-price (I'm always afraid they'll sell out and won't ever be found again), but I guess it just goes to show that it sometimes pays to wait for a bargain!

I love how the embroidery looks like yearbook signatures!

My plans for this weekend include attending my cousin's Bat Mitzvah (boy, do I feel old...) and celebrating Mother's Day.  Mother's Day is going to be a little difficult for my mom this year, since her own mom just passed away, so I want to make it special.  I'm planning on making her breakfast in bed (which she knows, so this isn't blowing the surprise, hah), and we're going to with my dad's parents.  I'm a little peeved at Amazon, because I found the perfect present and pre-ordered it, and now the estimated availability date has passed, and now there isn't an estimated date at all!  I suppose I could always do that lame "print out a photo of the gift" thing, but I might just surprise her with it, whenever it arrives.  I really enjoy the process of finding just the right gift for people, and I hate when it doesn't go according to plan!

Have a super Saturday!

Friday Favorites #48

Happy Friday, friends!  Here are my favorite finds from this week:

a // b // c // d

Last week, a reader alerted me to the existence of this Betsey Johnson cherry pie purse, and oh my goodness... I nearly had a conniption.  As impractical as it is, I may just have to have it.  I also love the coordinating gingham tote.  And although cherry print dresses are pretty common on retro repro websites, I'm very drawn to this one in particular.  It's much daintier than many others I've seen.

These new red gingham dresses from Collectif Clothing are simply adorable:

These dresses make me want to go on a picnic!  Although I'm partial to the charm of real picnic baskets, I have to admit that this one is both cute and practical:

German brand Blutsgeschwister has some truly darling dresses, and their use of color and print are always on point (side note: is it actually "en pointe," derived from the ballet reference, or is it okay to say "on point?"  Fellow English nerds, help a girl out!).  Although they do not deliver to the US through their own website, ModCloth has been known to carry their line, so I'm keeping my eyes peeled for future arrivals from this brand.  It's hard to see, but the first dress is actually a vegetable print, the second is a floral, and the third seems to have little bird cages!  So sweet!

I'm infatuated with this (literal) flower crown!
These vintage robes are so dreamy!

I would kill to fit into this vintage beauty!

I'm in love with these new arrivals from Sourpuss Clothing!  I especially love the second (which has little sailor cats on it) and the third (with a little lipstick emblem on the collar) dresses!

Since there's still a bit of a chill in the air, this ice blue coat is perfect for early spring:

This week's post is shorter on clothes than normal, but here are some links I'm loving:

This piece from Thought Catalogue, entitled "To All the Beautiful Women And The Men That Don't Appreciate Them," brought me some much-needed comfort this week.

This Buzzfeed piece, showcasing 21 reasons why cows are awesome:

And finally, this interview that Mindy Kaling conducted with Billy Crystal.  I love both of them, and they talk lots about When Harry Met Sally, and it's just very charming and sweet.

Have a great Friday!

Lemon tree

Outfit Details:
Vintage citrus print dress: purchased from Kate
Charter School Cardigan: ModCloth
Lemon pie ring: Citrus Couture
Belt: eBay

This darling lemon & lime print dress is one that I snagged from one of Kate's "shop my closet" updates!  It's very fortunate that Kate and I have a fairly similar build (and gravitate towards a similar aesthetic), since this dress represents a very rare specimen: it actually buttons down the front without any gaping!  Hallelujah!  It definitely requires a belt to create some shape, but it'll be such an adorable summertime dress.

Not much else to say today.  Have a great Thursday!
