Telephone hour

Outfit Details:
Call of the Winsome Skirt: ModCloth
Blouse: Forever 21 (similar here & here)
Betsey Johnson Collect Calls Bag: gift from Mom
Bass x Rachel Antonoff Oxfords: Nasty Gal
Quote Me Ring: ModCloth
Frilly socks: similar here
Belt: from another dress
Petticoat: eBay

I've been waiting forever to wear this skirt on my blog!  I have another version of this skirt with cat embroidery (see how I styled it here), but I knew when the telephone version arrived that I would have to have it.  A mint phone with a heart rotary dial and a little "bonjour" speech bubble??  I don't think I could dream up anything more perfect for me.  I have a slight obsession with rotary phones; not only do I have this skirt, but I also have a vintage telephone brooch (I decided it was a little *too* much to wear here) and my beloved Betsey Johnson telephone bag.  I didn't like the look of using the shoulder strap with this outfit, so I love that you can carry it by the little receiver!

I'm also super happy that I finally got a chance to wear my Rachel Antonoff oxfords with this outfit!  It's funny -- I tend to be very particular about types of items on which I'm willing to spend a significant amount of money.  I will usually spring for dresses, vintage or clothing items that are in some way unique or hard to come by.  I have a much harder time justifying spending a large amount on accessories (purses and jewelry) and shoes.  The most expensive shoes in my closet are probably my BAIT spectators (and I got two pairs of them on sale) and my one pair of heels from Miss L-Fire (which I actually have yet to wear because they are so stunning and fragile!).  I remember seeing these awesome shoes on ModCloth and Nasty Gal before, but they were originally way out of my price range.  They sold out on ModCloth fairly quickly, but when they went on sale for 50% off at Nasty Gal, they pretty much had the full range of sizes in stock, so I quickly snatched them up!  Sometimes I fall victim to buying items at full-price (I'm always afraid they'll sell out and won't ever be found again), but I guess it just goes to show that it sometimes pays to wait for a bargain!

I love how the embroidery looks like yearbook signatures!

My plans for this weekend include attending my cousin's Bat Mitzvah (boy, do I feel old...) and celebrating Mother's Day.  Mother's Day is going to be a little difficult for my mom this year, since her own mom just passed away, so I want to make it special.  I'm planning on making her breakfast in bed (which she knows, so this isn't blowing the surprise, hah), and we're going to with my dad's parents.  I'm a little peeved at Amazon, because I found the perfect present and pre-ordered it, and now the estimated availability date has passed, and now there isn't an estimated date at all!  I suppose I could always do that lame "print out a photo of the gift" thing, but I might just surprise her with it, whenever it arrives.  I really enjoy the process of finding just the right gift for people, and I hate when it doesn't go according to plan!

Have a super Saturday!

Friday Favorites #48

Happy Friday, friends!  Here are my favorite finds from this week:

Last week, a reader alerted me to the existence of this Betsey Johnson cherry pie purse, and oh my goodness... I nearly had a conniption.  As impractical as it is, I may just have to have it.  I also love the coordinating gingham tote.  And although cherry print dresses are pretty common on retro repro websites, I'm very drawn to this one in particular.  It's much daintier than many others I've seen.

These new red gingham dresses from Collectif Clothing are simply adorable:

These dresses make me want to go on a picnic!  Although I'm partial to the charm of real picnic baskets, I have to admit that this one is both cute and practical:

German brand Blutsgeschwister has some truly darling dresses, and their use of color and print are always on point (side note: is it actually "en pointe," derived from the ballet reference, or is it okay to say "on point?"  Fellow English nerds, help a girl out!).  Although they do not deliver to the US through their own website, ModCloth has been known to carry their line, so I'm keeping my eyes peeled for future arrivals from this brand.  It's hard to see, but the first dress is actually a vegetable print, the second is a floral, and the third seems to have little bird cages!  So sweet!

I'm infatuated with this (literal) flower crown!
These vintage robes are so dreamy!

I would kill to fit into this vintage beauty!

I'm in love with these new arrivals from Sourpuss Clothing!  I especially love the second (which has little sailor cats on it) and the third (with a little lipstick emblem on the collar) dresses!

Since there's still a bit of a chill in the air, this ice blue coat is perfect for early spring:

This week's post is shorter on clothes than normal, but here are some links I'm loving:

This piece from Thought Catalogue, entitled "To All the Beautiful Women And The Men That Don't Appreciate Them," brought me some much-needed comfort this week.

This Buzzfeed piece, showcasing 21 reasons why cows are awesome:

And finally, this interview that Mindy Kaling conducted with Billy Crystal.  I love both of them, and they talk lots about When Harry Met Sally, and it's just very charming and sweet.

Have a great Friday!

Lemon tree

Outfit Details:
Vintage citrus print dress: purchased from Kate
Charter School Cardigan: ModCloth
Lemon pie ring: Citrus Couture
Belt: eBay

This darling lemon & lime print dress is one that I snagged from one of Kate's "shop my closet" updates!  It's very fortunate that Kate and I have a fairly similar build (and gravitate towards a similar aesthetic), since this dress represents a very rare specimen: it actually buttons down the front without any gaping!  Hallelujah!  It definitely requires a belt to create some shape, but it'll be such an adorable summertime dress.

Not much else to say today.  Have a great Thursday!

Ruby slippers

Outfit Details:
Luck Be A Lady Dress in Red: ModCloth
Blouse: old (similar here)
Terrier belt: can't remember!
Shoes: Urban Outfitters (similar here)

9 times out of 10, I will plan out a new outfit well ahead of time, either in my head or with the pieces in front of me.  This outfit was one of those 1 out of 10 outfits that was completely spur of the moment, and it's even rarer that I actually liked the result.  I'm usually one to opt for patterns over color-blocking (and I don't think this exactly qualifies as "color-blocking," anyway), but I loved this combination of bright red and light cyan.  It looks more like baby blue in these photos, but it's way more vibrant in real life.  I had worn this ensemble to work with black flats and a black belt, but decided to swap them out for crimson counterparts, instead.  I inadvertently opted for Dorothy-esque shoes and a Toto-inspired belt in the same ensemble, but since I'm not wearing blue gingham and pigtails, I think it's okay.

I'm so impatient about this relentlessly chilly weather.  I haven't really been able to go bare-legged (sans pantyhose) yet, and I hate it!  Rochester has an annual Lilac Festival every May, and it starts incredibly soon (I think this week or next), and we're just starting to see teeny tiny buds on the lilacs!  I can't imagine they'll be in full bloom this year, if at all.  They're my absolute favorite flower, so I can't wait until they're blooming.  But at least there are daffodils and other spring flowers around.  I wish we had some flowering trees in our yard (I love cherry blossoms and magnolias).  Just looking at them makes me happy (and jealous, hah).  I'm afraid that once it's finally spring, it'll skip right to summer!

Have a terrific Tuesday!
