Cherry Pies Ought To Be You

All photos by Emma Rizzo
It may be September, but fruit-picking season isn't quite over yet! Emma and I picked some peaches and nectarines yesterday morning (and took photos, of course)... which reminded me that I had yet to post these adorable pictures from when we went cherry-picking. As usual, I picked way more fruit than I could ever eat and enjoyed every single second of it. I know we'll be picking apples before too long. Until then, I'll be savoring all the stone fruit I can get my hands on.

I probably won't be wearing much of this seersucker dress in the months to come, but it's definitely one of my favorite Trashy Diva dresses. I owned this in a smaller size but found it in one that's much more comfortable for my current frame. The bust needs a little bit of tailoring, since it feels a bit bare as is. But other than that, it's definitely one of my favorites for its simultaneous sexiness and sweetness.

Despite the weird occurrences from this past weekend (a trip to a hot air balloon festival with no balloons... a persistent migraine... and a short bout with food poisoning), this week is off to a pretty good start so far. The extra day off definitely did me good. Although I didn't actually do anything exciting on Labor Day, having the additional time to recharge was really needed. I'm always tempted to squeeze in as much as I possibly can on the weekends, but this made me realize that maybe I shouldn't do that all the time. Food for thought, I guess. I'll mull on that while I munch on one of the many peaches I now have in my kitchen...

Strawberry Season

joanie clothing jam jar dres

Holy cow, I can't believe it's been exactly a month since I last posted. It's amazing how quickly time seems to pass. I've been a little busier than normal (I did a staged reading, spent some time at the lake, and have been trying to put together my show for the Fringe Festival in September), but mostly... I haven't felt much like blogging. I still love blogging and don't plan on giving it up any time soon. But the work that's involved feels like a lot when you're running on empty. I've been taking photos, which means I have a big backlog. It's actually the photo editing that's keeping me from posting more frequently. It's so much easier to edit a single image for Instagram than it is a slew of large photos for this blog. I love doing it when I have the time and energy; those two things are just harder to come by these days.

That said, I have no shortage of time or energy when it comes to fruit picking! I know how quickly these seasons fly, so I've been making it a priority. I kicked things off with strawberry picking at Chase Farms. My mom and I went early one morning last month and we weren't disappointed. Of course, I had to wear this adorable jam jar dress (which is currently on sale!) from Joanie Clothing. It happens to match my jam jar brooch from Erstwilder perfectly, which isn't all that surprising when you consider how much I love a good food-themed outfit.

I never actually make anything from the strawberries we pick (other than strawberry shortcake!), but that's fine with me. These were so delicious. There's nothing quite like a ripe, local strawberry. I'm trying to savor all this fruit as much as I can because once it's gone, it's gone. I think a lot of my favorite things are like that (e.g., lilacs, peonies, peaches) – and that's probably not an accident. Everything feels so much more special when they're around.

I guess things have been a bit hectic lately. Aside from all of the other stuff I mentioned, my best friend was in a really serious car accident last week. Miraculously, he's going to be alright and I am so, so relieved. I've been reminded once again not to take people you love for granted or put off the important stuff. That means I'm enjoying as much as I can and that I'm wanting to take better care of myself, too. I hold myself accountable for so many things, but that last one's tough. I guess I'll start with savoring every moment – especially the moments that involve eating fresh fruit.

Apple Picking

vintage plaid dress

Goodness gracious, how is it already November? Things have definitely cooled down around here (I actually had to wear a heavy coat while trick-or-treating last night!), so I'm wearing ALL of the autumnal plaid things. I actually bought this vintage dress back in the spring because I knew I'd be looking for one just like it once fall rolled around.

Of course, I had to wear this dress while apple-picking (because if you don't document your trip to the apple orchard, did it actually happen?). How cute is this little fox pin from Mulberry Chronicles? Their whole brand is so whimsical and magical, and I thought he'd pair perfectly with this fall ensemble. I'll probably be hanging up my boater hats for the season (SOB!), but I had to take mine out for one last spin. Maybe I should invest in some cute headwear for fall and winter...

Mischief Night

mischief made trick or treat t-shirt

Okay, I know I'm getting a late start on my Halloween outfit posts... but I'll be making up for lost time this week. I've been inspired to style more casual t-shirts into my wardrobe lately, and as soon as I saw this adorable Mischief Made tee, I knew it'd make an excellent addition. This "Trick or Treat" graphic tee is SO soft and has some nice stretch to it. (It's very similar to the quality of Miss Ladybug's garments, if you're familiar with those.) It also goes incredibly well with this Steady Clothing plaid skirt, which is equally soft and buttery in texture. This entire outfit is surprisingly comfortable, which made it the ideal ensemble for pumpkin picking at Powers Farm Market.

Plaid and Pumpkins

vintage plaid skirt

Oh, fall. I do love you (even if that makes me basic). My birthday is in 10(!) days, so I think it's only natural that I adore all things about this season – including pumpkin-picking and wearing as much plaid as possible. I happened to find this adorable plaid skirt on Etsy and then realized that the seller was based right here in Rochester! She's so sweet (we actually have a bunch in common!) and she was kind enough to let me pick up the skirt in person. It's seriously the perfect autumnal plaid and will look cute with so many things! Be sure to check out Ann's shop, Magic Summer Vintage, for LOTS of adorable things!

I didn't pick up any pumpkins on this day, but I did over the weekend with my dear friend, Meghan. She just moved back home after living in St. Louis for a few years, and boy, am I glad she's here! We got frozen cider, donuts, and a bunch of pumpkins and had a lovely morning doing All Things Fall. I can't believe we're already mid-way through October... I'd better get my Halloween-themed outfits up STAT!
