Anyone get the reference in the post title?  It's a very sweet song from one of my favorite movies, Waitress.  If you haven't seen it, you absolutely should do so immediately.  It's a little gem of a film, and I thought it was a very fitting reference for one of my favorite dresses, since it's all about a girl who thinks only of pies!

This pie print dress is incredibly dear to me (is it weird that a dress is "dear to me?").  I've styled it a couple of other times on the blog (you can see those posts here and here), but this might be my favorite styling thus far.  I knew that when I got this purse, I would have to style it with this dress.  Sadly, the purse is no longer available, so I'm glad I got it when I did!  I thought the yellow belt (with hearts on it - how perfect is that?), red spectators, pie ring and fork necklace would complete the outfit really well.  Also, did you notice that all of my outfit posts this week were food-themed?!  It was totally unintentional, but I sort of love that my week consisted of ice cream, popcorn and pie!  I guess I have junk on the brain.

Speaking of Waitress, did you know that it's being made into a stage musical?  And that Sara Bareilles is writing the music for it??  I tend to dislike when movies are made into musicals, for a couple of reasons.  One reason is that I hate that it isn't a fully original concept.  Another is that film is sometimes a better medium for the story in question anyway, and something gets lost in translation when it's adapted for the stage (the opposite is also true, for when shows are adapted into films).  However, I am pretty eager to see what happens with this one.  Since the film has an offbeat, indie quality to it (even though I'm pretty sure it was handled by a major distributor), it's not a super well-known movie.  In my opinion, it's a little less likely to be ruined in its adaptation.  I get kind of territorial about little cult classics that I love, so part of me sort of wishes it could remain a well-kept secret, but on the other hand, it's a great story and it deserves more recognition.  I think the fact that there are also really tragic circumstances surrounding the death of the film's writer/director/actor, Adrienne Shelly, could also mean that their creative team will take pains to stay true to her vision.  Plus, you know, Sara Bareilles is great.

Have a scrumptious Sunday!

Honey Pie

My Kind of Pie Dress: ModCloth
Teal top: Forever 21 (old)
Boots: ModCloth (similar here)
Pie ring: Citrus Couture
White belt: eBay

I think it's an unwritten rule that every twee, kitschy or retro blogger has to have this dress (or at least must have it on her wish list).  It had been out of stock for the longest time, and I ordered it the day it came back in stock.  It really is one of my most treasured dresses (though I do wish it were slightly more forgiving on top -- this fabric has ZERO stretch to it!).  I always end up wearing it the same way, though (see how else I've worn it here), and I wanted to figure out a way to remix it and give it some longevity.  Because it's sleeveless, it's too tricky for a pinafore (though if I had a long enough skirt, it'd be great underneath as a button-down top -- next time!), so I went scrounging for a sweater or top to layer over it.  I remembered I had this cheap 3/4-sleeved tee from Forever 21 lying around, and it happens to match the darker teal of the pie tins perfectly.  I just rolled it up a little and put a belt over it, and presto -- a whole new way to wear this kooky dress!

I wish I could have worn different shoes with this, though.  We were having a spring-like thaw when I took these, but the snow wasn't melted nearly enough to wear something other than boots!  I already have spring fever, which is unfortunate, seeing as we have at least another month of cold, snowy weather ahead of us here.  Patience is not my strong suit.

I'm off to see the tour of American Idiot tonight!  Two of my friends from college are in it, and I'm super excited to see them.  I hope you have a great Thursday!

Easy as pie

Outfit Details:
My Kind of Pie Dress: ModCloth
Tangerine spectators: BAIT Footwear
Fork and knife necklaces: ASOS (similar styles here)
Lemon pie ring: Citrus Couture
White belt: eBay

These photos are from a few weeks ago (before autumn really took hold), but I still wanted to post them because I really love this outfit!  I'd been waiting for this dress to come back in stock at ModCloth FOREVER; I was starting to think it would never come back!  When it did, I ordered it immediately (how could I not?).  The print is absolutely perfect.  I was nervous about the top half fitting (I sometimes have problems with shirt dresses/gaping buttons/etc.), and though it's a little snug, it fits and doesn't have any weird gaps, so I was very relieved!

I'm starting to feel more and more like myself again.  I'm a perfectionist, so whenever something is a little "off" with me (emotionally or physically), I get very frustrated when I don't immediately feel normal again.  I'm not a very patient person, to be honest.  And rationally, I know time heals all wounds.  But for now, I'm just keeping my mind occupied, and taking stock of all the things that make me happy these days, like:

- this dress
- rehearsals & feeling like a real actor again
- feeling physically well again, after having been sick
- making new friends
- reconnecting with old friends
- being surrounded by kind, supportive people
- changing leaves
- sunshine
- sweater weather
- new blogging opportunities (more on this soon!)
- resisting food-related indulgences
- challenging myself
- feeling pretty again
- planning to redecorate my room
- getting a nice review of our Fringe Festival show
- laughing
- the smells of autumn
- having "good skin" days
- lots of blankets on my bed
- hot showers
- my kitty cat
- making money
- living in the present
- being open to lots of possibilities

Have a lovely Sunday!
