Life is a circus

circus shirt

There's no truer statement to sum up my existences as of late than "life is a circus." I feel like it's hard for me not to get a little bit overwhelmed by what I'm doing and what I have to cross off my checklist. I have four performances left of Heathers, the Musical (we got a really nice review in one of the local papers, which you can read here if you're interested), and I've been nursing one of a few injuries sustained during the show on my off days. I dealt with a slight MacBook emergency earlier in the week (which luckily did not result in losing any of my data, thank goodness!), and once the show closes, I need to focus on making some pretty big changes in my life  – namely, finding a new job, getting a car of my own and moving to my own place. It's scary, but exciting... and definitely necessary. I've never been great at juggling several big tasks, but for now, I've got to keep all the balls in the air.

I'm still catching up on editing some newer sets of photos, so I'm finally getting a chance to post these ones I snapped a few months ago. Since I've started wearing separates more, I've tried to amp up my collections of basics, which include adorable t-shirts and plainer skirts. This red skirt from Le Bomb Shop has gotten a ton of wear; I love the stretchy scuba material, and it's an easy grab-and-go piece that retains its shape. It comes in a bunch of other colors, too! I thought this vibrant red went perfectly with this adorable, cozy tee from Miss Ladybug. I've featured a couple of other tops from Miss Ladybug, and the quality is always great – plus, I'm a sucker for anything carnival or circus themed! This outfit was incredibly comfortable, but still allowed me to feel totally put-together (which is an A+ in my book!).

Lambie

lamb shirt

Is there anything cuter than a little baby lamb?? Ever since I was little, I've loved these little wooly, gambling creatures. I even had a stuffed lamb that I carried everywhere (aptly named Lambie), and I don't think I've ever fully gotten over losing her. My mom loves lambs too (and so did my grandma), so I guess I must associate them with comfort and family – and springtime! Since spring is finally here, and Easter is this Sunday, I thought it'd be the ideal time to style this adorable lamb tee from Miss Ladybug.

I featured one of Miss Ladybug's cute cardigans on the blog last month (see that post here), but I'm also a big fan of their graphic tees. I love the combination of this sweet graphic with the lovely pale yellow color of this top! There are so many fun designs to choose from on the Miss Ladybug site, and they're all super-soft and comfy. I didn't used to wear a lot of t-shirts, but now that I've gotten more into wearing separates, I love pairing more casual tops like this with skirts; it's still a fairly casual look, but I feel really put-together and could pretty much wear this outfit anywhere. This tee provides quite a bit of stretch – I originally thought I'd need to size up to an XL after looking at the size chart, but I'm wearing a size large here and it has more than enough breathing room – so I'd suggest ordering your normal size if you're in doubt.

Kitty Cat

miss ladybug cardigan

I'm an animal-lover in general, but it's no secret that I'm a bit partial to felines; I'm a devoted cat mom, and I can't say no to a kitty print! This cat cardigan by Miss Ladybug is so adorable and soft, and I love the fact that it's sort of subtle, too (I may love kittens, but that doesn't mean I want my wardrobe to scream "crazy cat lady!"). I decided to style it with this skirt from Doll Me Up, which I've worn before on the blog (see the post here), but this cardigan could easily be styled with a cute pair of jeans or capris for a more casual rockabilly look. Even with a fancier outfit like this, I felt totally comfortable in this cat cardi.

I'm enamored with so many of the designs from Miss Ladybug, and their screened tees and cardigans are all fantastic. The designs are influenced by the 1920s-1960s (much like my own style), and have a childlike sense of wonder, which is something I always like in my clothes. I'll be styling two t-shirts in future posts (and I can talk a bit more about sizing then), but for this cardigan, I sized up to the XL to accommodate my bustline. There's still a bit of gaping present, which is somewhat unavoidable with my build, but wearing a leotard or camisole under alleviates any issues – and I wouldn't have wanted to size up to the XXL, since I think it would be too big everywhere else. This cardigan also comes in pink and green, and I've got my eye on a couple of Miss Ladybug's other cardigans (like this record embroidered one and this musical one)! Do you own any of Miss Ladybug's charming designs?
