I'd sort of forgotten about this dress!  I didn't like how it looked on me for a long time.  The proportions seemed "off" somehow, and though I've worn it a couple of times before on the blog (here and here), I always had to style it with another layer.  But now I really like this particular styling.  Funny how time can change your perspective (and how true that is for so many different things).

In other news, I'm leaving for NYC today!  I really need to just get out of this town for a little while, and even though it's only for a long weekend, I'll take anything I can get!  I've actually been really gun-shy about going back to NY under any circumstances; not only do I have some bad memories from when I lived there, but because my ex-boyfriend still lives in the area (not to mention his new girlfriend...), there's kind of a negative connotation with that, too.  But I realized that I can't allow those things control how I choose to live my life.  I can't let the bad stuff from my past continue to have such a huge effect on what I decide to do in my future.  So I am determined to enjoy myself (I'm meeting up with a few blogger friends, as well as some friends from college that I haven't seen in a long time), and I'm determined to think very seriously about the possibility of moving back to the area.  It's obviously where I need to be, it's where I have connections, friends and unfinished business.  It's going to take me a while to feel financially-secure enough to make actual plans, but as long as I'm moving towards a goal, I think that's what's important.

  3. Another beautiful outfit! And I may say this every time you wear those shoes, but I love them. :) So glad you aren't letting past memories stop you from going (and considering moving back), although I do understand why you'd be hesitant. There was a time when I couldn't even walk into a certain store without feeling completely overwhelmed and upset, because of a vivid memory of a happy time I went to the store with someone who later turned around and showed his inner ugliness. But when you do get to the point where you can go there and turn it back into a positive (or at least neutral) place, I feel like it's so empowering. Like you've conquered a demon. Anyway, I hope you have fun!

  4. Ooh,. I love this dress and all the ways that you have styled it! I have a few garments that I've grown to like in different ways over the years I've had them. I'm so glad you're being positive despite the negative things that have happened in NYC; I still get negative feelings on certain things because of a guy in my past, and we weren't even dating! (He said he liked me, and flirted for four months, but never did anything about it. Oh well!) I hope you have lots of fun while you're there.

  5. That is such a commendable, fantastic outlook on life, dear Sammi.

This dress is crazy cute. The fact that the design looks like cross stitch (one of my fave crafts to do ever!) just makes me adore it a million times more.

  7. Getting away from where you live can always give a new refreshing perspective on life. Ive always loved traveling for that reason, it can make you realize how insignificant things are that you may think are a big deal. I hope you find your time in NYC reviving and fun! Its a great city, I only lived 4 hours away for most of my life and its always been an amazing experience to go. PS your dress is adorable and it looks great no matter what way you wear it!
