Like a spinning ferris wheel

Outfit Details:
Circus Dress: Poppy
Blue camisole: jcpenney
Bubble Yum necklace: Urban Outfitters
White flats: yeswalker

On Saturday, Steven and I headed out to Syracuse (a little over an hour away) to see what the New York State Fair had to offer.  I've been in the mood to go to a carnival all summer (after at least one failed attempt), so I felt this would be the perfect opportunity.  It was kind of silly though, because neither of us likes many rides, so we ended up paying sort of a lot just to walk around -- and go on the carousel, at my insistence.  I wanted to go on the beautiful, big ferris wheel, but it was reaaaally high up, and though I don't usually have a problem with heights, it looked like it might be a little much.  But I needed an excuse to wear this circus-themed dress, dammit, so at the very least, it was something to do on a Saturday.  And I got fresh salt water taffy out of it, so it wasn't a total loss.

This was one of my first experiences being in a very crowded public place while taking blog photos.  Even though these photos are definitely more in focus than the ones I take on my own, I still prefer being alone with my tripod.  People were stopping to watch Steven taking photos of me, and it made me super self-conscious!  When we took photos at the beach a couple of weeks ago, it was easy to find a secluded spot -- despite the fact that there were plenty of people around -- so this new to me.  Even though I have learned to become much more sociable and extroverted in certain situations (read: with other actors), in these types of scenarios, my naturally-shy personality takes over.  Luckily, he was able to get enough photos before people started becoming curious!

Besides the rides, games and festival food, the Fair had some pretty cool historical exhibits -- like a horse and carriage exhibit -- as well as a ton of agricultural exhibits.  We saw sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, and some of the BIGGEST cows I've EVER seen in my life.  Though I did think it was kind of in poor taste to have the cows housed right next to the stands selling burgers and sausages... eek.  I was kind of sad that I didn't have any cotton candy/curly fries/other junk that I'd been looking forward to, but I suppose my waistline shall thank me.  Like I said, at least I got taffy -- which was even more special because a) you get to see it being pulled right in front of you and b) they have really interesting flavors, like black walnut and anise, and they taste way more wholesome than anything you'd get in a store.  The peanut butter one has real peanut butter in the middle, and doesn't taste saccharine-sweet.

I may have come home with holes in my shoes (which reminds me that I need to fix them), but I still had a nice time seeing all the sights!  I didn't remember anything from the one time I visited the Fair as a little girl, so it was fun to experience it as an adult.  I found myself wishing I was small enough to go on the wimpy, kiddie rides though... which is a sentiment that kind of sums up a lot of my personality, I guess.  But I can't help it if I'm a kid at heart.  :)

Have a wonderful Monday!

  3. WHAAAT THIS IS ADORABLE! This entire post. Cute. Adorable. Presh. All things synonymous to the aforementioned adjectives. I seriously love how you match your surroundings. That necklace is so darling and I really like your cherry lipstick, too!

haha, wimpy kiddy rides can be the best. Sometimes the intense ones can be a tad frightening... like, what if they went off course and crash into a flaming lake? dooom!

  5. Beautiful pictures! Looks like you guys had a great time! And you're right that your cute dress needed to be at a fair. I totally hear you about taking blog photos in public. It's super awkward and hard not to be self conscious. But you got some great shots in:)

  13. That dress is adorable!! I have seen Poppy dresses on Modcloth and they always have the nicest prints. I don't like going on rides at carnivals either (I don't trust them) but they always have such good food so it's worth going just for that.

I am not a fan of taking blog photos in public either - I always look deeply unhappy in those photos because normally people just stand with their mouths open and gawk. It's like they've never seen someone have their photo taken before! They will literally stop in their tracks, their mouth hanging gaping open and will stare at you....I assume every blogger has the same experience :(

  14. oh wow, what an amazing day you had! carnivals always look so wonderful, especially if they have all the old rides and signs and everything, and of course food like fairy floss and candy apples. and of course there's nothing more appropriate than wearing a circus themed dress on a day like this.

  15. Aw, it sounds like you had a great Saturday! I've always been a huge fan of the fair, despite the loud people, huge crowds, and ridiculous prices haha! It always takes me back to childhood! I love the dress you wore and your little necklace, too!

  16. Aw Sammi- it looks like your day was so much fun! I get really self-conscious in front of people watching me while Daniel takes my pictures too, haha! That's why I usually find a secluded place at the park, but it's fun to get pictures while out and about too. Super cute dress and that necklace is adorable!

  18. This looks like the most perfect summer day - I'm kind of a chicken when it comes to fair rides, but I do love the taffy and snow cones :-) Definitely reminds me of being a kid.

These photos are really the cutest (and best location) and so is your dress!

  20. Oh my goodness, everything about this is so pretty! :) I love the theme of the dress, the accessories, the perfect hair...ah! Also, can I just say I'm so jealous? Summers look NOTHING like that here in the desert where there's nothing to do. :(

As an aside, I've been working up the nerve to ask: sometime would it be okay if I emailed/messaged you some questions for pointers on how to make a blog look extra gorgeous? I'm such a fan of your pictures and content, and if you ever felt like giving advice, I'd be so happy! (Of course you don't have to, I just thought I'd ask!!)
