This outfit was another possibility for a Valentine's Day ensemble, but even with the addition of a petticoat, this dress makes so much more sense for summer, and I ended up going with the beautiful dress I borrowed from Dus for the holiday. I love the detailing on this dress, though; the heart-shaped buttons and the lace along the hem and top are such nice touches. The only annoying thing about this dress is that I don't think the shape is entirely flattering on me. Although I really love Collectif's designs, I've found that their sizing can be incredibly strange and inconsistent. I've made the mistake of ordering clothing directly from their site before, and since they're based in the UK, returns are kind of a hassle. Since ModCloth carries Collectif, it's much better to be able to read reviews and ask questions about sizing through them. I think retro repro brands sometimes run a little big, in general -- am I the only one who feels this way? Luckily, whatever sizing issues this dress has are easily fixed with the bolero & belt combination. I just wish I had better boots to wear with this -- preferably ones that don't make my legs look impossibly stubby (which is not usually a problem for someone who is 5'7")!
I'd scheduled these last few posts in advance, since I've been away for the weekend. By the time this is published, I'll be on a bus heading back home. I don't schedule posts this far in advance very much (I find it kind of weird to not be giving current updates on my life), but it is sort of freeing to not have to worry about putting it together the night before. I often wonder what other bloggers do in terms of scheduling posts... I always feel like people will know if I'm being inauthentic in terms of a timeline, but then I think about the fact that I really don't know what other bloggers are actually doing on a day-to-day basis, so everyone could be scheduling posts a week ahead of time, while I'm the schmuck who's staying up late to finish hers the night before it's published. Truth be told, I always work best under pressure anyway.
Have a beautiful Monday!

Have a safe trip home, my darling Sammi! I know what you mean about sometimes finding dresses that are just a tad too long--I feel like whenever I wear a slightly longer dress, I've gotta wear heels so my legs don't turn into stubs. But this is absolutely adorable on you and I love that you've made your entire month of February full of super cute, romantic outfits! Plaid is perfect on ya.
ReplyDeleteHAVE A GOOD MOMNDAY! mondayads. monday. can't spell--it's a monday.
Very nice as always. Have a nice day.

Ooh! red looks good on you with your dark hair. I always love the lighting in your pictures
ReplyDeleteI think this is a gorgeous shape on you. I love the skirt on this dress!
ReplyDeleteI am actually one of those people that schedule my posts, I like to write a few out over the weekend and then schedule them for the week, especially if they are previous travel posts or recipes. These aren't really up to date as such. I would like to post as I go along but I just don't find the time with my job being such unpredictable hours.
I wouldn't worry about not sounding genuine, you completely do. I usually just write the post as if I would publish it that day and set it to another day.

I don't ever schedule my posts. I am also up late writing and editing, but I do edit and write posts in advance so that they are ready to publish within the next couple of days. I guess that's kind of like scheduling except that I don't actually schedule it. And if there's something else I want to talk about or something else came up within those days, then I add it in later when I'm about to publish it. It's just easier and less stressful to have a couple of posts already or almost done in advance. There are times when I have a backlog of photoshoots from a week ago that I haven't posted yet. I usually do about 3-4 photoshoots a week.
ReplyDeleteI love this dress. It really is so summery and it'd be perfect for a picnic, but it looks great in the winter too. I love the brightness of red against a backdrop of snow. It looks great on you! :)
I really need to start scheduling posts.. I'm usually up at midnight publishing posts, oops!
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is darling as ever. That bolero is perfect! Love your hair and makeup in that last shot, so beautiful <3
Oh my goodness! You are cuteness personified. LOVE this outfit so, so much! Also, your red boots! How perfect.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to look up the Collectif on Modcloth, not sure I'd heard of them as a brand before but this is very darling.
It is interesting to hear about other bloggers' habits and thoughts on blogging practices. I am definitely one of those people that schedule my post ahead of time. Part of this is that three days a week, my posts aren't really about my everyday life (partly my life is pretty mundane and partly this is because as a teacher I feel uncomfortable sharing much of either worklife for the kids sake or my life because of small towns being small towns). Those posts are ones that often require more research too, so it helps to write them in advance and often to "batch" them and write several of the same kind out. My outfit posts do contain some life updates, but are at least partially worked on in advance. Schedule-wise, we have to take photos on the weekend most days, but the writing will sometimes be done in advance about that day or sometimes I'll wait and write the night before about something. Sorry for the Tl;DR comment. Basically, you look great!
Hey Sammi! As you know I've been following you for awhile and absolutely love your style and blog in general, recently I was given a Liebster Award and part of the award is passing it on to someone else and I thought you'd be perfect for it! Absolutely no pressure to participate or anything, just wanted you to know that I think you're great and a constant style inspiration <3 here's the link http://www.ryapie.com/2014/02/the-liebster-award.html
