Friday Favorites #105

TGIF... except I'll be working all weekend, so no break for me! We are in the throes of the Fringe Festival here in Rochester, and there's no rest for the weary. I'm actually surprised I was able to get this Friday Favorites post up today! Here are some things I've fallen for this week...

It's still pretty hot here, but I am SO ready for fall. I'm even getting excited for Halloween already! And these Disney-inspired brooches from Femme De Bloom are definitely on my All Hallows' Eve wish list:

I kind of love this kitschy Halloween print dress:

Isn't this purse just out of this world? It would be pretty great for a Miss Frizzle costume...

I don't usually like separates, but I have to admit that I love these two skirts from Pinup Girl Clothing! The monster print one is so much fun, and I may have ordered the fetish print one for myself!

If you haven't seen the video of the new Halloween nighttime show at Disney... you need to take 20 minutes and watch it immediately. It's everything I've ever wanted.

This harvest print blouse from Tara Starlet is beautiful!

I already have the ring version of this necklace, and I might need it to match.

The prints on these dresses are so fun! I think I'm drawn to dresses that could easily double as Halloween costumes with just a tiny bit of imagination...

These Irregular Choice shoes make me smile every time I see them!

This coat is so cute! (It comes in black, too!)

This blouse from Book of Deer is lovely:

And finally... is there anything better than kitty cats + produce

For the record

vintage retro dress

Since I am a self-proclaimed queen of kitschy prints, I don't often gravitate towards neutrals or even solid colors. But now that summer has given way to cooler weather, I found myself being drawn toward this classic 3/4-length sleeve dress from Unique Vintage. I'm slowly trying to add some more subtle, versatile pieces to my wardrobe. I expected to like this dress enough for it to become a staple, but I wasn't prepared for how va-va-va-voom-amazing it would be!

The sizing for Unique Vintage brand pieces can vary a lot depending on the dress. I've found myself in between sizes quite a bit, and luckily they're really good at listing exact measurements for each garment on their site. Some dresses have fit me better than others, but this one fits true to size and truly exceeded my expectations. I was absolutely thrilled when I put it on! It's so incredibly flattering, and I feel like a million bucks in it – both of which are imperative in my approach to fashion. It hits me in in all of the right places (plus it has a built-in crinoline hem and hidden pockets!), and it's almost as if this dress were made especially for me. For more retro clothing, be sure to check out the huge selection at Unique Vintage.

I can think of a thousand ways to style this dress, but since I think black is anything but basic, I decided to incorporate little pops of hot pink with a vintage hat and my new Erstwilder brooch. It was a stroke of luck that they happened to match so perfectly! And If you're a fan of Erstwilder like I am, don't forget to enter our Blogs, Besties + Brooches giveaway – you can enter to win 1 of 5 gift cards for Erstwilder.com!

Hello, sailor!

pinup girl clothing anchor dress

I know everyone is looking forward to fall, but it's still pretty hot around here – which gave me a chance to wear my new-to-me Renee dress from Pinup Girl Clothing and take a little morning trip out to Ontario Beach. I also wore this dress when Ashley and I recently spent some time in Santa Monica, so I'm glad I'm getting some wear out of it even at the end of beach season! Our beach here is actually on a lake, not the ocean, but it's nice to be so close to one... even if I always forget it's there!

Like many girls, I was intimidated by the Renee style for a long time; the midriff cutout is quite bold, and the neckline is pretty bare. I was afraid that this dress would highlight the parts of my body that I'm insecure about and would be generally unflattering. But I had to admit that I was really curious about how it would look on me, and after seeing other girls look so amazing in it, I took the plunge when I saw it was for sale in a Facebook swap group. And the verdict is: I actually feel incredible in this dress. It's not a piece I can wear for a lot of occasions (it's simply too revealing on me), but I'm really happy I took a chance and added it to my wardrobe. Truthfully, I don't often feel sexy... but I do in this dress. I think part of having fun with fashion is being able to highlight what you love about yourself with your clothes – and another aspect of that is feeling so awesome in what you're wearing that it brings out a side of you that you didn't even know you had.

California Cuties on Junebugs and Georgia Peaches!

It's a magical thing when internet friendships transition so seamlessly into the "real world." I'm lucky enough to have an awesome little girl gang that extends far beyond the blogosphere. As most of you know, I recently spent some time in California with Ashley, and we of course made sure to take ample outfit photos during my visit. While our two other besties, Katie and Amanda, are recovering from their weekend at Dragon Con, Ashley and I are guest posting over on their blog (in coordinating pieces from Pinup Girl Clothing)! Follow me over to Junebugs and Georgia Peaches to see more!

Have a great Monday!

Friday Favorites #104

Happy Friday! I feel like I haven't done a "regular" Friday Favorites post in a while... which means I have a lot of fun stuff saved up from the past few weeks! Here's what I've been loving lately:

Betsey Johnson is killing it with her newest novelty bags! I'm swooning over her whole wedding line, and the mailbox and typewriter bags are amazing!

I finally got my hands on this magical unicorn brooch from I Love Crafty!

This slumber party print that Kate created is available in many different products in her Society6 shop, but I especially like it in this adorable pillowcase

I'm not normally a t-shirt girl, but these retro + cozy tees from Mischief Made have changed my mind! They're so cute and are very reasonably priced!

Everyone knows I love novelty prints, and I love retro tech prints – like this television dress from Lindy Bop...

Poppy recently launched a new collection of dresses, which includes pieces with prints of bunnies, farm markets and even plates of sardines!

I just love hedgehogs! I heard that they're actually in danger of being wiped out in the UK, which makes me so sad! I wish they existed in the wild here. At least I can have a sweater with one on it (or on a Kate Spade cross-body bag)!

We're actually having a bit of a heatwave at the moment, but I'm still thinking ahead to fall – and as always, I'm being tempted by cute coats in the prettiest plaids!

I absolutely need this top.

And finally, because I love interspecies friendships (and this one is especially sweet):

Sweet corn

I may have a problem with these Dee Dee dresses from Pinup Girl Clothing: namely, I can't stop buying them! I now own 3 out of the 4 current colors offered in the Junebugs & Georgia Peaches line – oops! Although I really adore several dresses from the collection (and adore my friends who inspired it even more), the Dee Dee style feels the most "me," with its peter pan collar, puff sleeves and retro waitress feel (which makes it the perfect match for my Erstwilder milkshake brooch!).

These cornstalks will soon be turned into the Amazing Maize Maze! I haven't been since I was little, but I want to go this year. They have a moonlight maze too, which sounds really fun. I was holding onto summer for dear life, but I think I'm just about ready for fall. It's supposed to be pretty hot here for the next week or so, and by the time that's over, I'll have had my fill. (Then again, it's supposed to be another horrible winter here, so maybe I'll be eating my words!) Though I didn't get through everything, I did manage to check off a lot of summery things on my list – like fruit-picking, going to a sunflower field, visiting California and going to the Renaissance Faire. What was on your summer to-do list?
