Malt shop

Outfit Details:
Ella Black Scallop Edge Pinafore: Dahlia
Pink top: Forever 21 (no longer available, but similar here)
Amalgam of the Year Flat in Mint and Ivory: ModCloth
Mint ice cream brooch: sweet and lovely

I think I unintentionally channeled Kate Gabrielle of Scathingly Brilliant with this outfit.  Not only does she have this pinafore, but she designed this adorable brooch AND works in an ice cream shop!  I feel as if I should serving malted milkshakes.  All that's missing is a name tag and a pair of rollerskates.

I absolutely love these shoes.  Steven bought me a pair of more traditional-looking black and white saddle shoes from Urban Outfitters that ended up not fitting, but these were an even better substitute!  I have at least three pairs of mint-colored shoes now... maybe I should stop.  Or maybe not.

I'm seeing Legally Blonde tonight, at a theatre at which I often work.  I was in a production of the show last summer, and prior to being in it, I never really thought much of it as a piece.  True, it is a fluffy musical based on a popular movie, but I definitely wrote it off too much.  Even though I am often drawn to darker shows, musical theatre's roots are based in the fun and uplifting, and that's exactly what Legally Blonde is.  The music is really fun to sing (though I will admit that there is too much unison high belting for my taste), and though you're not going to get the same emotional ride you'd get from some heavier works, that's not what this show tries to be.  It embraces the bubble gum, and you do leave the theater feeling happier and bouncier; the show does exactly what it it's supposed to do.

Have a great Thursday!

I'm the July guest blogger over at Room 334!

Hi guys!

Exciting news!  The lovely Elana at Room 334 graciously asked if I would be her guest blogger for July on her blog!  So I'm over there today, highlighting a few of my favorite July finds!  As always, my picks include some vintage, kitsch, and sheer cuteness.  :)  You check out my post here!

Chanteuse

Outfit Details:
Polka dot dress: Urban Outfitters (no longer available)
Stick with Knit Cardigan: ModCloth
Rock the Mic Pin: ModCloth (no longer available)
Black belt: from another dress
Black flats: JC Penney

Although I own a boatload (I'm pretty sure this might be literal) of loud, statement dresses, I really love classic combinations like black and white.  I got this adorable polka dot dress on sale at Urban Outfitters a while back (sadly, it's no longer available).  I actually attempted to take outfit photos while wearing it before, but I really disliked the way the photos came out.  The dress looked really unflattering on me, and I was sort of afraid of trying again.  But I think adding this little cardigan made all the difference; the dress is on the short side, and I think having a dark color on top evens out the fullness of the skirt.  I was kind of bummed to find that there's already a hole underneath one of the cap sleeves -- and this was the first time I've worn it!  It'll be an easy fix though.  But this sweater did give me a place to add this amazing brooch!

I couldn't not buy this!  Not only am I a singer, but I come from 2 previous generations of singers as well.  I've mentioned before that my mom made her living as a singer for years (seriously, you have to check out her unbelievably 80s music video), and my grandma was also a singer, as a longtime member of Sweet Adelines.  This whole outfit made me feel like a jazz singer.

Have a great Tuesday!

Tea and cakewalk

Outfit Details:
Teapot Print Square Dance Dress: Soulrust
Wide red belt: Pinup Girl Clothing
Boater hat: River Island (sold out)
Steep and You Shall Find Necklace: ModCloth (no longer available)
Kimchi Blue T-Strap Flats: Urban Outfitters
Basket purse: Mom's

I want to go on record as saying that I am officially obsessed with square dance dresses.  Also known as patio dresses (or sometimes squaw dresses?), these dresses usually feature puffed sleeves and full skirts.  What's not to love, I ask you??  Especially when one has not only a novelty print, but a tea-themed novelty print!?  This dress seems almost as if it were made just for me.  The fullness of both the skirt and the sleeves threw me a little bit at first, but I think the addition of the wide red belt helped a lot.

I can definitely see why they're still called square dance dresses.  I truly feel like going to a hootenanny in this get-up... and I love it.  The cakewalk is not at all related to square dancing (and has a pretty dark history), but sometimes we (read: I) take artistic license with post titles.

I'm sure this dress would look awesome with a short petticoat, but I'm not quite ready to look that costume-y in real life with this.  I think it's over-the-top enough without it!  I already need to figure out what kind of event to which I can actually wear this dress.

Have a wonderful Sunday!

Beauty school drop-out

Outfit Details:
Self-Tie Beauty Salon Shirt: Forever 21
Karaoke Songstress Jeans in Light Wash: ModCloth
Nudge, Nudge, Twinkle, Twinkle Glasses: ModCloth (no longer available)
White flats: yeswalker

I'm starting to repeat a few pieces for the first time!  No duplicate dresses yet, but I did wear this top pretty early on in my blogging ventures.  (You can see how I wore it the first time here.)  Surprisingly, it's actually still available at Forever 21.  It's one of the most charming prints I've seen.

I'm not normally one to wear anything cropped, but these high-waisted jeans convinced me.  I really love the Karaoke Songstress jeans that ModCloth carries (see all their different washes here!).  I own one other pair in a medium wash that are slightly too big (the original ones specify to size up, while the newer listings do not).  These are on the tight side, but in a good way, I think.  And I really love the light wash -- it's not one you often see in jeans that sport both a high waist and a skinny leg!

Have I mentioned that I really love these jeans?

So obviously this print gives off a 1950s vibe... and coupled with the cat eye glasses, all I can think of is that I feel like one of the Pink Ladies in Grease.  I played Rizzo in high school, but I'm probably more of a Jan/Marty type.  The shirt would belong to Frenchy, and the glasses would be Marty's (a la "one of my diamonds just fell in the macaroni!").

In others news, I'm super excited that I've sold some more things in my shop my closet store!  If you haven't already, I'd love it if you'd check out what I still have in stock.  There are still some adorable pieces at super-cheap prices.  I'm going through more items now, and I'll be posting another haul ASAP!  So stay tuned.  :)

Have a beauty-ful Saturday!
