This is going to be another short(-ish) post.  I've been cooped up since Friday, recovering from my wisdom tooth surgery.  I've been in quite a bit of pain (one of the teeth was impacted, which apparently means it's more painful and a slower recovery process), and haven't been able to do much other than rest.  One half of my face looks very swollen, and the other is pretty normal, haha.  Luckily, I have today off, so I'm hoping the extra day of rest will help.  The hardest thing is having to be on this mostly-liquid/super-soft-foods diet!  I apparently can't really start incorporating any foods that require chewing until the end of this week.  Which of course means that I can't stop thinking about all the food I can't eat!  I just want all the pizza and Chinese and pasta and bread in the world.

Since I look like I'm part chipmunk, these photos were obviously taken before my surgery.  It's absolutely freezing outside these days.  I hope it's supposed to warm up a little soon, since the lighting in my room leaves a lot to be desired.  I sort of put this outfit together at the last minute; I wore the sweater to work with high-waisted skinny jeans, but I wanted to see what it would look like with this circle skirt.  It's hard to see, but this skirt is more of of a costume piece than something for everyday wear (plus, it's too big, so the belt is essential).  It was fairly inexpensive though, and it works in a pinch for a '50s look.  I wore this sweater back in March, and it was such a great find from Forever 21!  I wish they would carry more retro-inspired pieces again!

Some fun news: I was contacted by our local newspaper to be interviewed for a piece on the popularity of vintage clothing, which is pretty exciting!  I always worry that I'm not knowledgable enough for these kinds of things, but I think I have a pretty good grasp on the basics, and I know what kinds of silhouettes I'm drawn to.  I wish there were more brick and mortar vintage places here in Rochester; there are a couple, but there are far more thrift stores than true vintage ones.  I'll probably want to touch on vintage repro labels too.  I'm not really sure what she's going to ask, but I'm stoked that I would be contacted, and it was seemingly through my blog (since she e-mailed my "bloggier" e-mail address), rather than through other personal connections.  I've been doing my research insofar as possible talking points, but be sure to leave me a comment if there are specific points you think I should mention!  :)  I'd be very grateful for any advice.  I'd hate to leave out something important!  The phone interview is going to be early tomorrow morning, so let me know before then (or shoot me an e-mail)!

Have a wonderful Monday!!

Friday Favorites #35

I'm keeping my Friday Favorites a little short this week, since I'm having my wisdom teeth surgery today (and I was distracted/anxious about it last night, when I was putting together this post).  It's a little all over the place, but that's kind of to be expected once the holidays are over, right?

Pink has become kind of a staple in my wardrobe, and these two pink shoes are practically perfect:

one // two

I'm not usually thrilled with overalls, but this little pink overall dress is so adorable!  It's like a jumper, but better!  Kinda farmgirl chic.  I'm a fan.

I don't really have use for a coin bank, but I just want this little donut bank so badly!
I love this retro skirt and vinyl wall clock!  They make a great pair.

And gosh, I love this mint blouse from Pinup Girl Clothing!  The color, the peter pan collar, and the little bow?  How perfect can a shirt possibly be??

I wish I had seen these two things in time for the holidays!  They definitely would have been on my Christmas wish list!

If you're into vintage and kitschy housewares, you should take a look at Kicky Digs.  It's a new Etsy shop run by a director of mine and his wife.  They really have an amazing eye for vintage pieces (their house is truly incredible), and they have some really cute things for sale right now!

BAIT's new line is absolutely killing me.  How pretty is this little white heel?

I would like this banana necklace, please!!

Speaking of banana... I love that yellow is showing up more in pieces, and that it's a yellow I can actually wear!  Mustard is a really awful color on me (which is sad, because it's lovely), so I really adore these bright yellow accents:

I'm also always into lavender, no matter what season it is!

If I'm gonna go ahead and dress up like a woodland princess, I think it's only fitting to pack my lunch in this little faun container!

If we're going to talk about containers, I have to mention these darling cake tins!
And thinking about cake makes me want this delicious-sounding s'mores milkshake...

If being healthy in the kitchen is more of your thing... this adorable carrot whisk might be for you:

I have my own little orange item that frequents the kitchen... but she's more of a Pumpkin, not a carrot!  :)  This little kitten reminds me of her!

*a birthday gift from my mama!

I guess red has become my go-to color for this season.  I didn't think I owned a whole lot of it (I always gravitate towards cooler colors), but apparently I do now!  I love this little red hat (which I first wore on my blog here), and it goes perfectly with this dress, which I've had for quite a while.  And can we take a minute to talk about this bag??  I practically begged for it for my birthday, and my mom can evidently take a not-so-subtle hint.  :)  It's truly fantastic.  I featured it on my Friday Favorites a few weeks ago, but that didn't do it justice.  I love the rotary dial interface on the front, and the most fun part is that the phone earpiece can plug into your mobile phone as a headset!  So you can keep your real phone tucked away and answer your calls with the purse phone set!  I haven't tried it out yet, but even if it wasn't functional, I would have wanted it.  My mom is a huge Betsey Johnson fan, so I knew she would understand my obsession with this bag!  It's smaller than I'd thought, but even cuter in person.

These photos were taken before our first snowfall... I can't believe winter's on its way already.  Just like I can't believe November is half over already!  Time seems to be moving so fast lately (which is strange, because with everything that's happened in my personal life, you'd think time would feel like it was creeping by).  It's interesting how your perspective of time changes as you grow older.  Summertime used to last forever when I was a kid, and now it absolutely flies by.  I think this is because you have more time to compare it to, but it's still a strange phenomenon.  Although fall is my favorite season, in a way, I'm glad it's going by quickly.  It's been an emotional time for me, and I think next time it comes around, I'll be able to appreciate it more.  At least I've made it through in one piece (thus far, anyway)!  And I do hope it lasts a little while longer, because up here, winter seems to go on forever, and it'd be nice to delay its start for even just a bit.

Have a terrific Thursday!

One lump or two?

Outfit Details:
Teapot print square dance dress: soulrust (similar here)
Red bolero: Pinup Girl Clothing
Doo Bee Doo Bee Shoe Heels: ModCloth (similar here)
Upper West Stride Hat: ModCloth
Petticoat: eBay

I ended up wearing this rather whimsical outfit last Sunday, when I went out for tea with my mom and grandma.  We had a nice time, but it seems like our teahouse is struggling a bit financially, and has had to cut some corners... which means that the food wasn't quite what we had remembered and hoped it'd be, so that was a little bit of a bummer.  I think next time I get the urge for a tea party, I'm just going to throw one myself and invite some stylish lady friends over (and require them to dress up, obviously).  That way, we can have all the things we love and I won't get weird looks for wearing a petticoat.

I first wore this dress on the blog over the summer (sans petticoat), and I was happy to see that it totally works for the cooler months.  You know that's a little difficult though?  Trying to find a coat that can work with a petticoat.  I think I need a knee-length coat that has a nice flare to it, so it would glide out right on top of a full skirt.  But maybe I'm just coming up with excuses to buy new coats... very likely.  I got this beautiful red and black coat for my birthday (made by Hell Bunny, one of my favorite labels) that I can't wait to wear, but it's definitely more of a winter coat than a fall one, so I'm still on the hunt.

This week is the last week for both of the shows I'm doing, which means it's the last week where I'll feel like a "real actor" for a while, and I'll be back to the grind soon.  That has its perks in some ways, but I'm worried about having too much idle time on my hands to dwell and think about things.  I'll have to direct my focus elsewhere -- towards redoing my room, for starters, and I'm excited about that.  I also need to get back to doing my driving lessons, which is a bit more difficult for me, because that activity is kind of emotionally-screwy for me.  It was already a tough thing for me to face my fears in that regard, and because Steven was helping to teach me how to drive, there's now a whole other layer to it.  But I am more resilient than I give myself credit for, and I can't stay in a safety bubble forever.  So here's to facing our fears, and not backing down from a challenge.

Have a great Wednesday!
