I just called to say I love you

Sometimes, an outfit I have planned out in my head looks just as good as I had hoped it would.  And then other times, pieces just don't work out like I'd thought.  I had every intention of wearing a petticoat underneath this skirt, but when I tried it, it looked really ridiculous.  Something about the length of this particular skirt, I guess.  I don't own a lot of skirts, and I don't have many this length, so I was a little skeptical of how it'd look with this dress layered underneath as a top.  This knit dress is way more of a body-con style than I normally wear, and it's definitely not working for me these days... but I love the print and the fact that it's warm, so I wanted to find a way to remix it.

I've been under the weather the past few days, and I'm really hoping it's not strep.  I have today off, so I'm going to try to get to the doctor.  At least it's coming at a time where I don't have to be stressed about being sick (i.e., right before an audition or opening a show).  I'm so envious of people who don't get sick very often!  My immune system has always kinda sucked, but I know there are a bunch of things I could do to stay healthy for a longer period of time.  I just always forget to do them!

We ended up getting a bunch of snow last night (I woke up from a nap to a blanket of snow on the ground!), and it's supposed to be really cold throughout the rest of the week, so I can't imagine it'll all thaw again for a while.  My problem is that so many of my shoes are too cute (and too un-sturdy) to wear out in the snow, but the boots I have only look good with certain things -- and they kind of ruin the look of some of my outfits!  I ordered a pair of high white snow boots from eBay (though I'm assuming they're probably going to be pretty low quality, even if they fit) to try and combat this problem, because my room isn't nearly nice enough yet to take photos in there and I still prefer going outside, even if it is cold.  There is something very serene in it, and I love my alone time.

Have a great Wednesday!

Crisp apple strudel (Flock Together)

It's virtually unheard of that I do two posts in one day, but I'm also blogging over at Flock Together today!  I'm styling this beautiful red dress (which belongs to the lovely Erica!) and I'm definitely feeling the holiday spirit.  So once you've had your fill of holiday shopping (did you check out my post on my favorite Black Friday deals?), head on over to Flock Together and take a peek!

Have a happy Friday!!

Bow by bow (Flock Together)

Hi, guys!  I'm blogging over at Flock Together today, and it's my very first outfit swap post!  I'm wearing an adorable dress from the lovely Elana of Room 334 -- and lucky me, she asked me if I wanted to just keep this dress, since she wasn't getting use out of it!  So now this cute little number is hanging in my own closet (though I'd still gladly send it out for swaps!).  I'd love it if you'd check out my post and see how I styled it!  :)

Have a great Monday!

She's a full-on Monet

Outfit Details:
Best of My Love Dress: ModCloth (no longer available, similar here)
Clueless sweatshirt: Forever 21 (old, similar here)
White heels: jcpenney (similar here)
Heart ring: Urban Outfitters (similar here)
White belt: eBay
Petticoat: eBay

Ever since I was asked to be a part of Flock Together, I've been challenging myself to wear my existing pieces in new ways.  I bought this Bernie Dexter dress during one of ModCloth's big 70% off sales, after eyeing it for a long time, and I'm glad I did.  I've become enchanted with the color pink lately, and I love the collar and matching belt it came with (not pictured).  However, it's a really light, summery dress, and I wanted to figure out a way to transition it into cooler weather.  I'd seen some other bloggers layer sweaters over dresses (and thus turn the dresses into skirts), which I think is a fantastic idea -- especially since I actually don't have that many skirts in my wardrobe.

I decided to try out the idea with this fantastic Clueless sweatshirt I snagged from Forever 21 a couple of summers ago; it's a size small, which I NEVER wear at F21, but it was the only size they had left... and it was $10(!!)... and it's one of my favorite movies... so I'd ordered it and prayed that it would miraculously fit me... and it did!  And I love this sweatshirt even better with a skirt/dress than with jeans.  This outfit is one of the few times that I've conceptualized an outfit in my head and it works just as well in real life.  With the addition of a petticoat, I felt like a 1950s version of Carrie Bradshaw!  :)

This definitely makes me want to do more of the turning-dresses-into-skirts layering trend.  I have a bunch of sweaters that are a little too short to wear with pants, so this might just be the perfect way to make use of them.  Would you try out this idea for yourself?

Have a lovely Saturday!

Where's the fire?

Outfit Details:
Fire hydrant print dress: borrowed from Marisa
The Dream of the Crop Cardigan in Mint: ModCloth (similar here)
White flats: Yeswalker (on sale!)
Daisy ring: Mom's

I'm so happy I was asked to be a part of the Flock Together style collective!  The girls who are make up this blog are truly some of the sweetest, loveliest individuals, and I feel very lucky and honored to be in their company.  This awesome fire hydrant print dress was one of the first pieces I borrowed, and it's from the lovely Marissa of The Shades of Monet Chronicles.  I really love Marisa's sense of style, and she has such a great eye for color.  She is able to remix pieces in ways I never would have thought of myself, but are so playful and work so well together.  I remember seeing this dress on ModCloth during one of their large sales, and I distinctly remember almost ordering it, but going with another dress instead.  I'm so glad that I got the chance to wear Marisa's, especially since Retrolicious is such a fun brand.  I especially love the pockets, and I'm a total sucker for an oversized collar.  Check out how Marisa styled this adorable dress on her own blog here!

Have a lovely Monday!

Pumpkin spice

Outfit Details:
Orange bow dress: Forever 21 (old, similar here)
Stay in Character Top: ModCloth (similar here, or exact shirt on eBay)
Knee socks: ModCloth (similar here)
Toe Tapping Attitude Heel: ModCloth (no longer available)
Heart necklace: ASOS (no longer available)
Daisy ring: Mom's

Is this the most stereotypical, girly title for a blog post or what??  No apologies though, because I DO love fall and everything pumpkin, and this dress feels like all of those things.  But here's something I keep wondering lately, because I keep hearing people say "pumpkins aren't even spicy!" and making fun of the PSL thing... Is "pumpkin spice" just a shortened variation of "pumpkin PIE spice?!?!"  As in, the flavoring that gets put INTO pumpkin pies to make them taste all cinnamon-y and warm and lovely??!  Is that what PSLs are IMPLYING?  So really, they are PPSLs?!  Am I a genius?  Or am I an idiot for just figuring this out?  Maybe don't answer that.

Anyway, this lovely orange dress is perfect for fall, and I've been wanting to wear it as more of a jumper for a while (ever since I first wore it on the blog, here).  Although it's still on the short side for me, I definitely like wearing it with a blouse underneath and with something like knee socks or tights.  This blouse is a tricky piece too, because not only is it cropped, but it also has a weird high-low hem (which I generally dislike on all things -- mostly because I can't pull it off), so wearing it under something else seems like my only option.  But I got the blouse during one of ModCloth's crazy sales, and the print reminds me of the illustrations in The Very Hungry Caterpillar, so I had to get it.  I've also decided that I need to wear these shoes more often.  The bows are just too stinking cute.  And being the matchy-matchy girl I am (let's call a spade a spade), I had to have bows on my shoes to match the bows on the dress!  Too cutesy, maybe, but I love it.

Have a wonderful Saturday!
