Schoolyard Crush

too much fun dress modcloth

I really enjoyed putting this outfit together.  I'd been wanting to see how this dress looked with a blouse layered underneath it for a while.  It just so happens that, while I love the collar portion and color of this blouse, I don't particularly love it on its own, so I thought these two pieces would work really well together.  Even though this dress is really summery (see another way I styled it here), it's surprisingly versatile.  It's probably not the most flattering dress I own -- the waistband is a little odd on my frame -- but I do love the colors, and it's a very "easy" dress to wear, if that makes sense.  I'm sure I'll be wearing it with cardigans and sweaters later this fall.

My weekend's been pretty uneventful and quiet.  With all the birthday and Halloween treats, I decided that my eating decisions were getting kind of out of control, so I'm starting Weight Watchers again today.  I made sure to get my fill of Halloween candy yesterday, ha.  In all seriousness though, I know I need to take better care of myself and be more active, and I hate that I've slipped back into old habits (which definitely do die hard).  The fall and winter holidays always make it difficult to make healthy choices, but I know I'm capable of sticking to my guns.  After all, when I first started Weight Watchers, I actually lost weight over Thanksgiving!  Weight Watchers has always worked better for me than trying to do my own food journaling, etc. because it makes me feel like I'm held accountable to someone other than just myself.  So I'm writing it here too, because I'm determined to get out of this rut!

  2. I love this dress, it really suits you! And I agree that it's one of those dresses that are cutest with layers. I really liked how you styled it - the stockings and your make up looks great :-)

    Good luck with WW :-)

  3. Love the new take on this dress - having seen you layer shirts under dresses it's something I really want to try now. Also, loving the tights! I know what you mean about falling back into eating habits. I find exercising such a chore, when I do need to drop some pounds I always try to remember the Weight Watchers rules my mum's been living by as long as I remember - and they really work! Good luck to you taking it up again (although from what I see you look great anyway!) :) CC x

  4. This is a fun remix, and I hope the WW goes well! It can definitely be hard not to plunge back into certain eating habits, but you are so positive and take-control about this. Sure you'll do great :)

  5. Gorgeous! I love the plaid--I've been after some prints like that for fall/winter, but so far no luck. I prefer the darker tartan colors, but these pictures kind of make me want to browse brighter! I've also been really curious to experiment with layering blouses under dresses--you look great!

PS: Pardon the hopeless hopeful in me, but is there any chance you haven't emailed the contest winner(s) yet? Or have they already been notified? :)

  13. I love the layers and polka dot tights! I still haven't broken out the tights yet, but it's finally getting cool enough for them. It can be so hard to stay active in the fall and winter with the short days, as soon as it's dark I want to settle in on the couch!
