Star-crossed

heart of haute

I took these photos in the late summertime, but didn't get around to posting them until now, for some reason. This constellation print top + skirt set from Heart of Haute is one of my favorite outfits – I could easily wear each piece separately, but I enjoy wearing them together a lot of the time. I love that the blouse is great for work events, and the skirt is of a really versatile length. But obviously, the print is the best part! Although I like galaxy and constellation print pieces, I've never owned any until now; this particular one was too pretty to pass up! (Gold sparkly stars?! C'mon!)

While trying to come up with a blog post title, I started thinking a lot about certain relationships in my past. I think a lot of them have been "wrong place, wrong time" scenarios. Or just plain "wrong person." For a long time, I thought I'd found the right person, but in retrospect, I'm glad things didn't work out. I don't really believe in fate or that I'm destined to be with one particular person. But I do think there are right people for certain times in your life, even if you might not understand the reason in the moment. Actually, I'm not even trying to find a reason (or even any logic at all), which is a rare occurrence for me. I realize this is sort of cryptic, but it's because my feelings in general feel that way even to me right now. I'm trying to be okay with not having everything all figured out. It's a good challenge for me. I'm being cautious, but even if things fall apart, I think it'll be fine. Things do have a way of working themselves out in the end.

Modern day mermaid

seashell we dance dress modcloth

I had sort of accepted that I was unlucky when it came to giveaways, so I was ridiculously excited when I ended up winning a giveaway from I Love Crafty a few months ago.  I love all of Laura's creations (her donut line is to die for!), but I've always been very partial to her mermaid line -- and I ended up winning a wonderful set of sea-siren-inspired pieces!  I decided to remix my Nishe seashell dress (see another way I wore it here) for the cooler weather and utilize my ASOS seashell purses and Pinup Girl Clothing jelly wedges (because if mermaids had feet, they'd probably wear jelly shoes, amirite?).

I also happened to luck out with the weather when I took these photos.  It's been cold this week (though not much snow in sight!), but it was nice to not have to wear heavy tights with this dress -- or make my way through the snow!  I dislike most of my shoe options for winter, as most of my practical boots don't look right with dresses.  I haven't had to worry too much about that as of yet, but we have 3+ more months of wintery weather to look forward to here.  I'm happy with having snow from the week before Christmas through New Year's Day... but in upstate New York, winter can last 'til April!  I guess I'll have to enjoy the lack of snow while I still can.
