Friday Favorites #72: Black Friday Edition (contains discount codes!)

TGI(B)F!  Although I absolutely love Thanksgiving (and any holiday that involves eating copious amounts of yummy food), Black Friday is definitely the shopaholics' holiday.  We spent yesterday being thankful for all the wonderful things we have... and then today is all about materialism and commercialism.  ;)  I've already done most of my Christmas shopping, so Black Friday is a time where I can snag some great deals for myself!  Here are some things I've been coveting this past week -- and be sure to scroll down to the bottom for a huge list of promotional codes (including one for my own Shop My Closet store)!

I feel like it wouldn't be a Friday Favorites post without some novelty purses...

I also love the color of this vibrant lavender coat:

I tend to drink lots of tea and hot chocolate in the wintertime.  This infographic will help keep my beverage choices interesting (and delicious)!

I can't talk about treats without mentioning these donut notecards!  I need them!

I'm also a big fan of salt water taffy, and this pumpkin pie taffy looks especially good:

I'm very much into documentaries, and I recently watched two films that I absolutely adored.  The first was called I Know That Voice, which is all about voice acting and the actors behind many of the most beloved voices in animation.  I've always secretly wanted to pursue voice acting and voice overs as a facet of my career, so I was already familiar with some of the cast, but holy smokes, if you're at all interested in performing or entertainment or just like cartoons... you should check it out.

i know that voice film

The second film I watched was called Advanced Style.  I wasn't familiar with the Advanced Style blog, but the film is centered around some of the women who had formerly appeared on the blog (which is about New York women who are over 50 and have impeccable style).  As someone with a flair for the dramatic when it comes to how I dress, this film really spoke to me and was truly inspiring.  If you're into fashion (I can only assume you are, since you're here!), give this one a watch.  Both of these films are streaming on Netflix Instant!

Okay, back to the clothes.  A pastel blouse with scalloped edges?  I'm in love.

Do fries go with that shake?

modcloth good enough to eat dress

Happy Wednesday! Between planning out my meals with Weight Watchers and celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow, I have food on the brain as of late... so I thought it'd be a good time to wear this dress! This print is really fun, but to be honest, this dress wasn't even on my wish list. I love a good novelty print, but this one always seemed a little too loud and busy for me. It's cute in person, and it's a great layering piece, but I'm definitely not as attached to it as some of my other kookier dresses. It's definitely grown on me, though. Plus, I felt like I had to get it after I got this purse! Out of my entire collection of novelty purses (which is ever-expanding), this one is probably the least practical. Although my other novelty purses are a little too silly for certain occasions, they are at least large enough to hold the necessities. My iPhone won't even fit in this bag! But it's a really cool piece to have, and it's by Kling (a brand I really like), so it'll stay in my collection for now.

The big news from last week is that I finally got my driver's license! I was incredibly nervous for this road test, and frankly, I thought I did worse on this test than the first one... but I passed, thank goodness! I haven't been driving myself a ton (I have to coordinate car usage with my mom for now, and because I've been working a lot of half-days and we have to pay for our own parking, it's been a hassle), but I drove by myself for the first time on Sunday -- and for the first time at night! I know it seems silly to be excited over something like this (especially when people 10 years younger than I am manage to do the same thing), but I feel a huge sense of accomplishment in conquering my anxieties about driving. I'm really happy about it, and feel very confident in my abilities -- not just with driving, but also with the idea of taking on other things that seem scary. I think doing something that scares us is the best way to grow as people, and I feel really good about about what I'm capable of doing.  :)

Shop My Closet update!

shop my closet

Happy Sunday!  I'm just dropping by to let you know that I've done a pretty substantial update to my Shop My Closet store, including some really fun party dresses and coats that are perfect for the holiday season.  I also have a bunch of different sizes available (I've worn anywhere from a medium to an extra-large, so I have sizes 8-12), and lots of different styles -- many of them unworn.  Below is just a tiny little sampling of what I've added, and I still have some great items from previous updates that are still available!  If you're in the market for an inexpensive holiday option -- or just want to treat yourself -- head on over to my Shop My Closet store and take a peek!  :)

Friday Favorites #71

Happy Friday!  I'm certainly glad it's nearly the weekend, aren't you?  Here are some sweet things that I came across this week; hopefully they'll brighten your day just as much as they did mine!

I think most of you know that I live for novelty bags (frankly, I own more of them than I know what to do with!), and I especially love food-related accessories and clothing.  These three bags are too much fun to resist!  I already own a popcorn bag, but this one is pink(!!!).  And wouldn't the champagne bag be so much fun for New Year's Eve?  I surprisingly don't own a cupcake bag (yet), and this one from Shop Bananas is so darling... and would match so much of my stuff!

For a more subtle (and non-food-related) option, I also love this cloud clutch:

I know this romper is all kinds of crazy, but I can't help but like it:

These Mary Janes are completely swoon-worthy, and I really want them.

This pink princess coat from Collectif is such a dream!
I'm really excited that winter accessories like stoles and muffs are coming back into fashion!  They might not be the most practical of options, but they're so glamorous!

These retro Christmas tree ornaments are adorable!

Figgy pudding isn't really a "thing" here, but I think these earrings are so cute!

I don't currently own an ugly holiday sweater... but I'd totally consider getting one of these.  I especially love the Chanukah one -- it's such a fun twist!

It's undoubtedly freezing here, so I sometimes forget that it's summer right now in Australia!  This dress is from an Aussie brand called Review, and it makes me wish for warmer weather:

This ruffled blouse would be so great for layering under dresses!
I'm forever searching for boots that work with retro dresses, and it's difficult to find footwear that would actually withstand all of the snow we get here.  Although these wouldn't work with all of my dresses, I'm really digging these boots as an option:

This Cath Kidston dress is so vibrant and sweet!

And finally... THESE COATS.  They are perfect.

Have a wonderful Friday!

Polar Express

cath kidston

Although it still looks like fall in these photos, I can assure you that it's much more wintery now!  This was actually the first day I saw any real snowfall (it didn't stick at the time, but you can see some snowflakes in these photos if you look closely!), and we are now in the midst of an incredibly cold snap.  We're only an hour from Buffalo (where they got FIVE FEET OF SNOW), but it's mostly just freezing and windy here with a few flakes.  At least the cold weather is good for layering!

I don't wear this dress all that often, but I love the print.  I'm often drawn to prints that remind me of garments from my childhood, and this dress definitely falls into that category.  It's by British brand Cath Kidston, and although it's no longer available, I always enjoy their nostalgic clothes.  They still carry this fantastic double-decker bus print dress, which is pretty similar (and on sale!).
