Pencil pusher

luck be a lady dress

I'm sure I've mentioned that I'm a huge devotee of the Luck Be a Lady dresses that ModCloth carries.  They're made by a UK-based brand, Closet, and they are among my most versatile dresses.  This newest version is the 5th one I own (oops); the red and purple versions I have are my go-to audition dresses, and then I have an autumnal plaid and a springy print version as well.  But since this saturated spearmint color is a favorite of mine (and I had a coupon to boot), I managed to justify getting this one.  My dear friend Ashley recently styled hers on her blog, and it reminded me that I had yet to wear mine!

Until last weekend, I hadn't much felt like getting dolled up at all.  I'd spent the last couple of weeks in grubby clothes and not putting on much makeup or doing my hair.  To be honest, it was a nice break, but I'm glad to be feeling more like myself again.  I mentioned in a recent post that I had gone to a dermatologist in an effort to get my skin cleared up, and so far, what I'm doing seems like it's had a positive effect on my skin.  Although I still wouldn't feel at all okay about going barefaced to a social event, the nice thing is that my skin has definitely calmed down quite a bit -- and that means I can wear way less makeup, since I don't have to cover up as many imperfections!  I used to have to wear a ton of liquid foundation, concealer and powder to hide blemishes and redness, but now I'm able to dust on some BareMinerals powder concealer and foundation (which isn't anywhere near as heavy as what I had been wearing) and feel great about the end result.  It's still in the beginning stages, but I hope it'll just get better from here!

Today's post will be very short, since I'm currently writing this from the JetBlue terminal at JFK, during our veryyy long layover on our way to Florida!  Also, these will be the last of the indoor photos for a while (I hope).  I'm bringing my new DSLR on vacation, so cross your fingers I'll be able to take some passable photos in nice, warm weather.  I took these photos the other day before my callback for Young Frankenstein.  I was called back for Elizabeth and Inga (the Madeline Kahn and Teri Garr roles, for those who know the movie), but I ended up being cast in the ensemble, which will still be fun.  The other show I'm doing overlaps quite a bit with this, so it's probably for the best.  However, I know that I sang the hell out of the Elizabeth songs, so I hope I'll get another chance to audition for a different production of it in my future (maybe when I'm actually the right age to play it).

Can one ever have enough Luck Be A Lady dresses?  I think not.  This one is actually shorter and tighter than the other ones I have (even though they're all the same size), but I'm sure it's because this brand (Closet) makes a lot of dresses in this same silhouette and they aren't actually all the same dress, regardless of how ModCloth categorizes them.  At least they're all incredibly flattering!

We'll be in Florida by the time this is posted, and I'm hoping to sneak away for a little while to take photos where my grandma lives.  The grounds are so pretty and there are gardens everywhere.  Cross your fingers for good weather (and magically-acquired camera skills)!

Today's post is a bit of a short one.  I worked every single day last week (I normally get at least one day off), so not only am I exhausted, but I also didn't have much time to take photos over the last several days!  We had a weekend full of holiday concerts where I work, which of course meant that I had to look festive!  This is what I wore on Saturday (though I couldn't wear the hat, since it wouldn't work very well with a headset) for my double header of concerts.  I love these Luck Be A Lady dresses; they have such a flattering silhouette, and isn't the belt adorable??  This particular color has way more stretch than the other two I have (I probably could have gone down a size, but I kind of didn't want to bother exchanging it, since it looks fine with a cardigan over it).  It's a great holiday dress, and it'll also serve me well for auditions, since it's flattering and such a nice color.

I'm super excited because one of my oldest and dearest friends, Meghan, is in town for the holidays!  She lives down in St. Louis now, so I don't get to see her very often, and we are loooong overdue for a catch-up!  We usually go out for Vietnamese food when we see each other, but I think we're opting for a coffee date today.  I'm glad to have the next few days off.  :)  I just hope the weather isn't gross so I can take some Christmas-y photos outside!  Eeeee I love holidays!!

Oh, and before I forget: the winner of the Silent Daisy giveaway is... Kari!  Congratulations, Kari!  Crissy will be in touch with you about all the details :) Thank you so much to everyone who entered!
