Ever since I was asked to be a part of Flock Together, I've been challenging myself to wear my existing pieces in new ways. I bought this Bernie Dexter dress during one of ModCloth's big 70% off sales, after eyeing it for a long time, and I'm glad I did. I've become enchanted with the color pink lately, and I love the collar and matching belt it came with (not pictured). However, it's a really light, summery dress, and I wanted to figure out a way to transition it into cooler weather. I'd seen some other bloggers layer sweaters over dresses (and thus turn the dresses into skirts), which I think is a fantastic idea -- especially since I actually don't have that many skirts in my wardrobe.
I decided to try out the idea with this fantastic Clueless sweatshirt I snagged from Forever 21 a couple of summers ago; it's a size small, which I NEVER wear at F21, but it was the only size they had left... and it was $10(!!)... and it's one of my favorite movies... so I'd ordered it and prayed that it would miraculously fit me... and it did! And I love this sweatshirt even better with a skirt/dress than with jeans. This outfit is one of the few times that I've conceptualized an outfit in my head and it works just as well in real life. With the addition of a petticoat, I felt like a 1950s version of Carrie Bradshaw! :)
This definitely makes me want to do more of the turning-dresses-into-skirts layering trend. I have a bunch of sweaters that are a little too short to wear with pants, so this might just be the perfect way to make use of them. Would you try out this idea for yourself?
Have a lovely Saturday!

This clueless sweater is the bomb, I love it!! It looks fantastic over this dress, which has the sweetest print I might add!
ReplyDeleteIt's so awesome having other ladies inspiring us to try new things :)

I am just a huge petticoat fan anyway, but this skirt- Ah! Perfection in how fluffy and full it is! You nailed the sweater-over-the-dress look, and I quite dig the way the collar pops out over the sweater too.
ReplyDeleteTotes adorbs.

I remember seeing that Clueless sweatshirt a while ago on the Forever 21 website! I wanted it pretty badly, but never actually bought it. It was my favorite movie when I was around 9 years old. It even made me beg my parents for a beeper...lol. Remember beepers? How silly. Anyway...this is such a fantastic look! And I love remixing things and layering in creative ways. I also find that I don't really have that many skirts. And I certainly don't have any that are good for the colder months, so using dresses as skirts comes in handy!
ReplyDeleteYour Clueless sweatshirt is so adorable, I would totally wear it!

I LOVE that you've paired this beautiful dress with a Clueless sweater, completely appropriate and adorable :D
ReplyDeleteOh I love layering shirts/sweaters over dresses--it makes them so much more versatile!
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute outfit! Seriously - I think I need to start dressing up a bit more fun :)
ReplyDeleteFirst, I absolutely love every piece of this outfit. Second, I was just thinking the other night (while watching Clueless) how bummed I was that I didn't buy this sweater two years ago at F21!! I can't believe you have it and I love how you paired it with something so fancy and pink. You are a girl after my own heart.
ReplyDeleteFrom far away, this dress looks super sparkly--I love love love that pink pattern, aaah! It's so Barbie, haha. I just adore pink so much. That skirt is absolutely dreamy, Sammi! I'm glad that you've been challenged with Flock Together. ;)
ReplyDeleteOmg I love that dress and the sweater is sooo cool, I love that movie!!
ReplyDeleteEver since I saw this on IG, I have been aching to watch Clueless b/c it's been far too long since I have! This outfit is practically perfect in every way. Even though you are wearing a Clueless sweater (which is amazing btw)- this outfit somehow reminds me of Grease, hehe - best of both worlds, right? :-)
