Minty Fresh

mint vintage dress

Fall may be officially upon us, but I'm still basking in the last bit of warm weather while it lasts – and spending as much time outside as possible. I bought this vintage dress months ago from Shermy, but it was just slightly too small at the time (sob!). Luckily, I was finally able to zip it up a few weeks ago... and immediately celebrated my victory with some ice cream.

It's nearly October (and today marks exactly 1 month until my birthday!), so I'm eager to start doing some fall things this weekend. It's supposed to rain for the rest of this week though, so if I'm stuck inside (which honestly wouldn't be the worst thing – it's a great excuse to stay snuggled in bed), I'll save the apple and pumpkin picking for later. I'm mainly just looking forward to taking time to breathe and enjoying the season.

Venice

trashy diva venice nights

Oh, novelty prints – you forever have my heart! As soon as I saw Trashy Diva's Venice Nights collection, I knew I needed to own a piece from it. I decided on the Gia dress because of its fuller gathered skirt and v-back. For those wondering about the fit of this new style, I ordered my usual TD size and it fits just great; I know some girls found the Gia to run large, but I personally couldn't have sized down. I wasn't totally sure how I felt about it on me at first, but when I tried it on again yesterday, my heart went all aflutter! Although I'm far from the canals of Venice, at least I had the backdrop of our own Erie Canal for these photos.

Stripes and Sunflowers

pinup girl clothing striped jenny skirt

These photos are a few weeks old, but posting them now gives me the chance to relive a perfect afternoon! My dear friend Rusty came home for a few days, and I felt so lucky to spend some time with him. We were determined to take photos in this big sunflower field – and we got there just in time. Most of the sunflowers were past their prime, but we managed to find a section of late-bloomers... which is sort of appropriate for Rusty and me, actually. We've talked about (and bonded over) how we each have needed a bit more time than other people might in order to find our place and our stride. But once we find it, we tend to bloom beautifully.

After spending the golden hour amongst golden flowers, we enjoyed a delicious dinner at a pizzeria Rusty recommended. I could (and often do) spend hours catching up with Rusty when we've been apart. Although I have a fairly large circle of acquaintances from the theatre community, it's rare for me to find such a supportive friend with whom I connect so deeply. Three of my closest theatre friends aren't living in Rochester right now, so what time I do get to spend with them is precious. Rusty recently figured out that he's a fellow Highly Sensitive Person, and I love being able to relate to him on that level, too. I wish he was here all the time, but he's off doing wonderful things with an equally wonderful theatre company down in Virginia. I'm so proud of everything he's accomplishing, and I'm grateful to know that he feels the same way about what I'm doing here.

Milkshakes

milkshake skirt dangerfield

Summertime is definitely on its way out, so I'm determined to enjoy what warm days we have left. I think one of the best ways to do this is with the consumption of ice cream. I hadn't been to Pittsford Farms Dairy yet this year, so my mom and I headed out to enjoy some frozen treats before the end of the season... and of course, this milkshake skirt from Dangerfield Clothing was perfect for the occasion.

Other than bidding farewell to ice cream weather, I'm pretty excited for autumn. I can't believe October is right around the corner. I feel sorta "basic" for saying that I'm looking forward to sweater weather, fall foliage, hot chocolate, apple picking, and pumpkins (plus Halloween and my birthday)... but I do honestly love all those things and I shouldn't have to feel ashamed about that. I'll get into how annoying I think the "basic" backlash is some other time, but suffice it to say: like what you like. As long as it's not hurting anyone, don't let anyone make you feel badly about it.

And finally, I liked seeing the pieces from Rachel Antonoff's new Betty and Veronica collection! I didn't love all of the pieces, but I definitely liked some and I'll be eager to see them when they're released.

I do enjoy this top (and Alia Shawkat, obviously)!
Have a great day!
