Don't feed the plants

pinup girl clothing venus flytrap skirt

As an actress who performs primarily in musicals – and as someone who has recently embraced the wonderful world of separates – I pretty much had to have this wearable ode to Audrey II. I've actually never been in Little Shop of Horrors, but it's on my list of shows I'd like to do. Having this skirt might be the next best thing! I'm a huge fan of the Darling Dames skirts from Pinup Girl Clothing – they're a bit shorter than the Jenny skirts, and therefore are a little more versatile for my everyday life – and they happen to come in some of the best prints. I'd love to see more versions of this skirt in solids, too!

I actually booked a commercial(!), which shot yesterday. It's for a local bank, and it sort of fell in my lap in a very unexpected way – much like most of the gigs I've been booking lately. Even in this relatively small community, it really is about who you know. I had a lot of fun (I even got to wear a lot of my own fun clothes for it), and it was really great to get some more on-camera experience. Otherwise, my weekend was pretty uneventful. I have a promotional photo shoot this morning for the show for which I'm currently in rehearsals, so it's been a semi-glamorous couple of days!

Friday Favorites #111

Happy Friday! I'll admit it: I'm getting into the holiday spirit. Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and I may or may not already be planning my Christmastime outfits. These pretty plaid Hell Bunny dresses would definitely fit the bill!

I'm truly coat-obsessed (especially when it comes to Hell Bunny), and although I received a similar coat for my birthday, I still love the drama of this one!

If I were traveling for the holidays, I'd definitely use these darling cases!

Pumpkin patch

vintage plaid dress

I'm popping in for a very quick post with these pumpkin-y pictures! Pumpkin picking season is over now (luckily, pumpkin pie season isn't!), but my best friend Wayne and I made a trip to get some pumpkins last month at a local farm. They didn't really have many pick-your-own pumpkins, but I managed to snap a few shots in this field in between hayrides. We also had fresh apple cider and homemade donuts, so I'd say it was a pretty productive afternoon. It's been unseasonably warm so far this fall, which gave me a chance to wear this new-to-me vintage dress (and of course, my pumpkin brooch).

I can scarcely believe that Thanksgiving is so soon, and the holidays are sneaking up on me. Time needs to slow down! I may be sick of warm weather, but I'm not quite ready for snow yet...

Have a great Wednesday!

Perdita

tatyana boutique ping pong dress

Good news, friends: Erstwilder is launching some brand new designs today! I've featured Erstwilder jewelry several times on my blog before, and their quirky resin brooches have quickly become a staple in my wardrobe. They're so much fun to collect (I've compared it to having wearable Beanie Babies before), and I love the fact that the designs keep getting better – and they make such a point of enlisting the help of their customers for input in their collections. There are several new ranges being launched this season, but I was totally taken with the "A Dog's Day Out" collection – and specifically with this sweet dalmatian brooch!

Although I'm something of a cat lady these days, I've been a longtime fan of the book One Hundred and One Dalmatians. Of course, I do love the classic Disney film, but I love the fact that the book is different enough from the movie that it doesn't really affect my love for either version. The story is so endearing, and I have really fond memories of my mom reading it to me as a kid. It's also one of those books that I've read over and over (just talking about it now makes me want to read it again!). I always thought that Missis was the name of Pongo's wife in the animated movie, but I guess she actually is referred to as Perdita. The character of Perdita in the book is a totally different dog (she's a liver spotted dalmatian that the family rescues), and I always loved her storyline. I drew inspiration from both these beloved dogs and Cruella de Vil with this outfit!

Ashley also decided to style one of Erstwilder's newest doggie brooches over on her own blog today (and might I say, she looks amazing in her post)! Be sure to check out all of Erstwilder's newest offerings on their website. I've definitely got my eye on a few, especially for the upcoming holidays! Let me know what you think of the new releases in the comments section!

Have a great start to your week!

Friday Favorites #110

Happy Friday! I don't know about you, but I'm definitely ready for the weekend. I guess now that Halloween is over, it's sort of okay to think ahead to the holidays (at least a little bit)... here are some of my favorite finds of the week, starting with some fun novelty bags!

I do already have a pie dress (which I love wearing for Thanksgiving), but if you're on the hunt for one, this one is pretty adorable – and I love that pumpkin pie is included!

This little marshmallow mug is so cute! I drink hot cocoa almost constantly these days.

I might need this sweater. I love it paired with the strawberry collar blouse, too!

Circus

circus print dress

You know when a dress just speaks to you in a special way? That's what happened to me with this dress. I found this older Pinup Girl Clothing design by total accident; I'd been holding out for an intended re-release of the Zooey dress in this same circus print, but that seems to have fallen through for now – and I actually like this Ginger style better! It's so darling, and everything about it feels so "me."

I managed to sneak into the Spiegeltent during the Rochester Fringe Festival this year to snap some photos. These pictures definitely don't do the space justice. If you're interested in seeing some incredible photos from my favorite Spiegeltent show, you can check out this album on Facebook. I also stopped by this 3-D art installation to walk on the tightrope for a bit. ;) I was pretty pleased with myself that I had themed outfits for pretty much every night of Fringe this year (it's the little things...), but this dress was by far my favorite.
