Enchantment Under the Sea

vintage sea dress

I'm so glad to be surrounded by balloons (40,000 of them, in fact!) instead of snow for today's post!  Every year, the Rochester-based balloon folding artists known as Airigami put together an amazing exhibition called Balloon Manor, and this year, it's all ocean-themed!  They're even holding an event on Friday that's based off of the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance from Back to the Future.  Since I can't attend the dance (which is a shame, since there's even going to be a vintage costume contest!), I was able to convince my friend Henry to take some prom-inspired photos with me during the day, when Balloon Manor is open to the public.

The artistry of Airgami's work is truly astounding.  They make everything from epic scale sculptures to wearable balloon dresses!  I don't have a balloon print dress (shocking, I know), so I opted to wear my Nishe seashell dress and add some vintage accessories.  Henry is a vintage fiend, so I knew he would be the perfect partner for these shots (and he kindly did my hair for the occasion, too!).

  6. Holy shit I love this post! Your dress is divine, your hat is even better, and your hair is beyond pretty. That balloon palace looks like a lot of fun - what a great idea. It's too bad you can't attend the dance, but these are some wonderful photos.
On a side note, is Henry's hair just like that, or does he have some wicked skills with finger waves? I would love a tutorial if it's the latter! :P

    1. He does some sort of finger wave set at night -- I'll have to get details from him! :)

  8. Gosh, how cute are you! The dress is amazing (you couldn't have picked a better one) and the prom pose pictures are adorable. Henry is clearly a man of many talents... and I second Jessica.... is his hair naturally like that or does he have some mad finger wave talent?

  12. That is officially one of the coolest things I've ever seen! I had no idea that there were balloon festivals like this. I massively want to attend one now. Balloons were a childhood favourite pastime of mine and I still adore them to this day in every form (right down to my mid-century metal balloon bouquet brooch :)).
