Crimson and clover

burgundy dress

I'd been looking for a winter-y dress in a deep red color for a while.  My first choice was (and still is) something in velvet, but I saw this dress on the LuLu*s website and decided to order it.  I didn't realize at the time that it's actually made by Kling, a brand I really like.  The dress definitely runs large, and I really liked it at first, but in looking through the pictures, I realized that it's not really the most flattering for my body type.  It looks fine in the photos I ended up choosing, but despite the fact that it's such a pretty color and is very warm, I think I might end up listing it in my Shop My Closet store.  It'll look great on someone with less of a curvy figure than I have.  Live and learn, I guess!

  1. HELLO AGAIN!!! :) Nice to see you!
I LOVE the fabric of that dress, and the color looks fabulous with your brunette hair! (From one brunette to another...LOVE it!)
    And those tights are beautiful.

  2. I actually quite like this on you. I feel like curvy women (myself included) always go for the cinched waist look - it's definitely the most obviously flattering shape if you have boobs and hips and all that jazz. With the belted empire waist, this definitely draws a little more attention to the girls, but I feel like it also draws attention to your pretty face and hair.
But I totally feel you on the velvet dress thing. If I could find one that 1)my size 2)not crazy expensive and 3) didn't make me feel like a total 90s throwback, I'd be all over it.

  3. Ah I hate when that happens. I guess its one of the perils of ordering things online. I love the dress on you regardless. Especially with those tights!

  4. I grabbed a velvet dress for Christmas but I love this one too. I think it looks cute on you! I love this color and how great it looks with those floral tights.

  5. That color is so perfect for winter, and it looks great on you! I actually ordered a green velvet dress from Lulus and ordered a size up because it ran small, but then when I got it it was kinda baggy in the top, which is disappointing because it was gonna be my Christmas dress.

  6. Very, very pretty dress. I'm a total sucker for quilted garments, especially skirts and dresses. I'm sorry that this frock didn't work out as well as you would have liked. The colour is magnificent on you, but I totally get that if you're not feeling the way it fits, there's no sense in holding onto it (because you know you're rarely, if ever, wear it).

*PS* Love the Tommy Jones and The Shondells (and later Prince, Joan Jet, etc versions) song reference in this post's title. :)

  8. Fab colour on you, but if you're not feeling the love 100% then I understand the urge to pass it on! Life is too short and our wardrobe's too small to hold less than fabulous items!

Good thinking on the sheer yet patterned tights by the way, it's a more interesting alternative to opaques and I've stocked up on them this week. x

  11. I bought shorts from Kling once and they ran large too. You look so good in deep red! I love the tights and boots you wore the dress with. I love wearing printed tights with a solid dress.

  12. I love the unexpected texture of the dress, and those tights! It does look really good on you, but I agree, it's better to pass it on if you don't like the way it fits. Happy Friday!

  14. I really do love this dress on you, but if you DO decide to let go of it, you should let me know :) I probably can't afford it, but I've been looking for a great burgundy dress (which you'd think would be easy, right?) for a while, but I've been struggling and this one is perfect. Just putting that out there. I really do think it looks adorable on you though!

    1. Elana, it's actually up on my swap board right now! I'll probably put it up for sale if no one is interested. :)
