Autumn (+ giveaway winner!)

leaf print dress

This photographic print dress is so pretty, isn't it?  Fall and spring are my two favorite seasons (I guess I love the equinoxes?), and I think both of them make for really stunning fashion inspiration; after all, they represent the most colorful times of the year!  The only problem with this dress (well, other than the fact that it's a bit too small for me right now) is that I don't feel right wearing it during other seasons -- it just seems out of place!  So it stays in my closet from December through August.  But it's easy to justify keeping it because it's so beautiful.

I still can hardly believe that it's November.  These past few months have gone by really quickly, and the holidays are going to be here before we know it.  I wasn't really ready before, but now I'm kind of looking forward to them.  Our holidays are usually pretty quiet and low-key, and that's okay with me right now.  I can feel my heart healing; it's gradual, but palpable.  I still get nostalgic, and sometimes I'm still sad about what I've lost (especially around the holidays), but I've been finding a lot of joy, too.  Being able to focus on the happiness I feel -- and the fact that I can both create and maintain it myself -- is an important step for me.  And it lets me know that I'm going to be okay.  I last wore this dress on Thanksgiving (see the post here), and though I was still reeling from my breakup, I made a list of all the things for which I was thankful.  The list still rings very true (though I have added lots of bullet points to it since), and reminds me that, though my heart may still be hurting, there is still much brightness to treasure.  Spring may be a more accepted season for renewal, but perhaps the fall is mine.

Oh, and the winner of my big birthday giveaway is...

Congratulations to Sara, and thank you so much to all of you who entered!  I wish that everyone could win something!  I'm definitely going to try and incorporate giveaways more often though, so that'll be something to look forward to.  I'm thinking maybe something around Christmastime would be nice!  I'll have to think of something good.  :)

Have a great Wednesday!

  1. I'm so glad that you're feeling a lot better and that you are able to find joy and happiness on your own. That's a beautiful thing!

I also can't believe it's already November and before we know it, it'll be 2015. Craziness. I'm kind of freaking out about the holidays, lol. I don't know what to get anybody!

Thanks again for the giveaway!! :D

  2. I saw the name Sara and my heart jumped. Darn! Not my last initial. Oh well! Love this look and love your outlook on the holidays. I had a breakup around the holidays 3 years ago and every year I think of that time. It hurts less and less every year but it certainly reminds me of the awful-ness that it was whenever I go home for Turkey Day! Time heals all wounds!!

  3. Fall is one of my favorite holidays too, too bad where I live we don't get much in the way of color. That dress is stunning. I actually ordered some of the fabric to make myself a skirt, I can't wait to see how it turns out.

  5. Staying positive is so important, and recognizing you're still healing is a great sign too. Self-awareness helps so so much.

Anddd I am salivating over this dress. I love fall and it's a gorgeous piece. I have some Modcloth store credit in my account, so I might be buying this. Seriously.

  17. You're always so good at picking color schemes!! Your dress is what I wish fall looked like here lol. You look adorable.

And I absolutely think that fall can be a season of renewal--it is the season of change after all, which is just as important. Take the time you need to feel however you need to feel. You have wonderful family and friends, I'm sure, that you can bond with over the holidays, and I'm sure there are lots of wonderful things to look forward to! :)
