Mint condition

Outfit Details:
Dress: purchased from Kate
Necklace: Forever 21 (similar here)
Heels: estate sale store

I always seem to luck out when Kate sells items from her closet.  It sort of goes without saying that she and I have a similar aesthetic, and it's fortunate that she and I wear the same size in most of our clothes.  I managed to snag this beauty in her latest sale (along with a fantastic citrus print dress), and I couldn't wait to wear it.  I was beyond thrilled that both dresses fit well, and this dress wasn't nearly as see-through as I had feared (thank goodness!).  With its little cape-like bodice, this dress feels so special that there isn't much of a need for fancy accessories, so I paired it with a simple wishbone necklace from Forever 21, and the best vintage shoes ever (a $10 estate sale store find!).

This week was rough.  In addition to dealing with all the stress that comes along with tech week for any show, my grandma passed away on Friday morning (if you missed my post yesterday, you can take a look here).  My mom went to Florida on Wednesday (she's coming home this morning), and I'm glad she was able to make it there in time.  She and my grandma were quite close, just like my mom and I are.  My mom is essentially my best friend.  I've been thinking about mortality and aging a lot because of this, and frankly, it scares the hell out of me.  I am not exactly a realist, by nature, and I'm so sensitive to the thought of change that I can't bear to think about losing my own parents.  I don't want to lose anyone I love.  I know it's a part of life, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

It can be really difficult to put a positive spin on these types of situations.  I guess I have to close with the hope that you can live in the present, enjoy your life, and take nothing for granted.  Easier said than done, especially given this world in which we live.  But I do hope you have a beautiful day.

  1. Firstly, I love you in this. The cape-like thing is darling and unique.

Secondly, I'm sorry I didn't comment on the post itself, but your previous post (and this one too!) is/are a lovely tribute to you grandmother, who sounds like she was an amazing woman. I'm so sorry for your and your family's loss.

  4. It's always such a shock to the system when we lose someone so integrated into our life. I lost my father about a year ago and although I haven't really come to terms with losing him =, I found it easier to come to terms with the idea of ageing and life being finite. Since then I have taken steps to make my life mean more to myself and my happiness is the most important thing to me.

Take from this time what you need to. Grieve and sit still letting life move along without you, then when you are good and ready grab life by the balls and live it, because we don't live forever.

Take care of yourself, with your busy schedule, you might now forget about your head. Good luck and much love to you.

  7. I'm so sorry for your loss, Sammi. It is so difficult to lose someone you love. I think about losing my parents, too, and it just makes me sick to my stomach. Thinking about you during this difficult time:)

  8. I never know quite what to say in these situations. I remember when my grandfather passed the only thing I wanted to hear was that he was okay in heaven, and feeling sad was normal and healthy, and that this feeling would pass when the time was right. I hope you are allowed to breed and your family can lean on each other --- and remember, lovely, it always gets darkest before the dawn.

    love,

I really like your polka dot dress and I am happy that you were able to buy it from Kate. The ruffle front is beautiful! I can't wait to see the other dress too!

  11. I'm still thinking about you and your grandmother, Miss Sammi. That's so awful to hear--she was a beautiful, kind lady, I'm sure. I know you've been going through some rough things lately and this is probably the last thing you need right now, huh? Sending internet hugs your way.

On an outfit note, you're looking absolutely fresh and delicate in your ruffly dress. I love the detail up top!

  12. I came here to comment saying "if you are to ever sell that dress please to glob email me at blah blah blah", but after reading that you bought it off Kate (damn you, I saw it there too ;n;) I doubt you would want to part with such a beauty. But if you are ever in the mood my email is gummy_pirates@hotmail.com. (might as well try eh? haha)
