After spending a few days trying to think of what I wanted to feature, I decided that this week's Friday Favorites would be a lot of retro, sentimental pieces that harken back to another time, with a few romantic finds thrown in. Actually, this combination is a good description of my personal style!
If you regularly follow my blog, you are probably aware that I love pieces with a retro flare. This holds true not just in my closet, but in my sense of interior design as well. I am determined to one day have a retro-style, colored refrigerator (in addition to other appliances), for one thing!
I love white with pops of pastel color!
A perfectly pastel kitchen!
I love this retro stove (which looks like it's authentic to me, rather than a remake, but I could be wrong), and the scalloped hood is too amazing for words!
Super retro, but I love the combination of the floor/fridge/pink accents!
I actually like the shabby chic feel paired with the retro appliances, though this is a little too country for my taste.
This, however, is nearly perfect!
A thousand times YES.
And of course, this just made me look for other pastel inspirations for decorating...
I also love Kitchen Aid's line of colored mixers (if only they weren't so expensive!):
And these retro stoves are great, too:
This one, made by Big Chill, comes in 8 standard colors and 200 custom colors! This is true of all the retro remake appliances they sell, I believe, which is amazing!
I know these design inspirations won't be a favorite for everyone, and I'm not sure I'd ever go to these extremes in my own place. But these pictures make me smile when I look at them, and I think that's a necessity in creating spaces in which you plan to spend a lot of time. These quirky, unique ideas make me happy, so even if they're a little "out there," who cares?
Outside of interior design, I really love the retro pin-up look. It's kind of my not-so-secret dream to be a pin-up girl. I think the silhouettes of this style are incredibly flattering, for one thing, and of course, everyday clothes that slightly (or not-so-slightly) evoke costume pieces are the ones I'm drawn to. I particularly love this springy, retro dress from Pinup Girl Clothing:
Lavender is such a beautiful color, and it's popping up everywhere this season!
But getting back to retro silhouettes... Some of my favorite retro pieces are swimsuits, of course! Here are some recent finds that have caught my eye:

In a similar retro vein, I really love this playsuit from Lashes of London:
This vintage playsuit is 1970s/1980s retro, rather than 1950s, but I looove the bright colors and design! It has sold already (I would have wanted to scoop it up, had it been a larger size), but I still wanted to post a picture of its greatness:

I will also forever be obsessed with this gorgeous beach set from Trashy Diva:
I've seen this adorable dress before (in several different styles), but I wanted to take a moment to express my love for Le Bomb Shop -- a wonderful eBay store that focuses on providing retro pieces at great prices. This dress is one of MANY that the shop has to offer!
And of course, I can't talk about retro dresses without mentioning pin up queen Bernie Dexter, who has several new items available on her website for spring. I love nearly all of her designs, but these two new dresses are especially lovely:

I will actually be attending a retro-themed event this weekend! It's a theatre gala that showcases a ton of local theatre companies in the Rochester area, and this year, the party is Mad Men-themed! I've actually never watched the show (I know, I know -- this should be a crime for someone as retro-inclined as myself), but I do have the perfect dress hanging in my closet for it (and it's really vintage!):

I cannot wait to finally wear this dress - and snap some pictures during the evening's festivities! Now I just need to figure out how to do my hair like this and I'll be all set:
And finally (this one was a long one!), I'll end this Friday's favorites with a few strictly-romantic picks:
I think we need to start wearing gloves like these again on a regular basis.

Have a beautiful Friday!
